dont listen to anyone that says you need to buy a dr85 or anything made of plastic. especially if money is not an object. the only reason they say that is cause they cant blow a nice call. if they tell you they can blow them the same they either suck or are lying. But i would recommend getting two calls one timber one open water/medium range duck call. some good combos from some different companies go as follows and my personal choice in order:
RNT daisy cutter (or short barrel, i would recommend the sb if you are just starting out),with a RNT timbre.
Echo timber xlt with a echo timber wood (bois darc is my favorite)
i might have to end up trading in my rnts for echo tho. im gonna have to see how my bois darc timber sounds. if it sounds good i might just get a XLT. that is one sweet call!
GH22 youve been convincin me.. only time will tell my friend. im also looking forward to blowin that timber rattler

i'm curious, how "good" do you have to blow a call to kill ducks?

XLT's are the shizzit. Alot more flexible than just about any other call. Still have my good ol dr85 though. And gator your exactly right. It's like I tell these massive amounts of newbies who are gettin into duck huntin buyin 140 dollar acrylic rnt's. It's one thing to be able to sound good on a duck call, it's another to be able to call ducks. The only thing is they don't know how to do either.

well you can get by with bein able to do a simple quack and comeback. but if your really good then thats that more ducks that youll call in than say someone who isnt as good.
and any of you guys that blow dr85s all better be shootin 870s and not sbe cause that is worse than the calls.

ECHO is easy to blow. Crossland if you do not want an Echo.

You dont have to be a good caller just get 12 mojo decoys and let them do the work. It has worked for a bunch of yahoos that I have seen. or hell STAY HOME like BBB would say.

I have really liked the "Big Guy's Best" Bourbon single reed....Took a while to learn but I have liked it..........
