I got an Arbour Acustic when I was 12 but my mom was like Guitar lessons and my dad was leaning towards baseball. Let's just say I could throw a curve that year but still couldn't play the guitar. Now I wished I could play.

Most any Japanese manufactured acoustic in the $200 range is a good guitar....much better quality than $200 would buy you 20 years ago.
I've got an old Yamaha, a Takamine, and a D28 Martin, and can't play any of them worth a damn.
I thought buying a high dollar Martin would inspire me to practice more, and it did for about 2 months, but I haven't gotten it out of the case in 3.
But rest assured ... the D-28 model Martin is the pinnacle of acoustic guitar craftsmanship, tone, and playability - the standard by which all others are judged.

this is a good point. Martin licenses an asian knock-off that has a solid spruce top and sounds good. The line is called either Sigma or Sigma by Martin, can't remember. They don't even come with a hard case but they're a great beginner guitar.

Don't worry Don Miller, we are going to get you one of those oil can guitars hand-made by James "Super Chikan" Johnson, during the upcoming blues fest in Clarksdale. Then, you can graduate from "air guitar" to oil can guitar and "entertain" your critters out in the country.

Here's one for you 6 string experts, a buddy of mine has one hell of a vintage guitar collection. When I was a kid, I'd go over on jam night to their practice place and hang out and listen. Bob takes off his electric guitar and hands it to me while he heads to the cooler to get another Dos Equis. The guitar he handed me was a 1958 Gibson Flying V made of Korina wood. He let me hit a few licks on it through his little Mesa Boogie.
I'd love to own a vintage Martin anything!!!

I've been playing for about 15 years and I've found guitars are like guns, you can never have to many. I play solo acoustic shows around central and south Alabama. I just played a bar on Dauphin Street in Mobile last Saturday night and had a big time.
I just bought a Takamine EAN10C Natural with a cedar top. To me this guitar sounds and plays better then mid-range Martins or Taylors.
Here's the rest of the collection.
1937 wooden body National Dobro
1940 Supertone lap steel
Gibson Hound Dog Dobro
Johnson square neck dobro
new Gibson Les Paul Standard - faded edition
early 90s Peavey Predator
Fender Gemini III drednaught
A few weeks ago I ran across a 1930 metal body National that was phenominal, in good shape considering the age and had "THE" tone.
The serial number was 30 away from SRVs old national. That's the same guitar Son House and Bukka White played. I sat down and played Pearline and Death Letter Blues and couldn't believe how close the sound was to Son House. The guy was holding it for a songwriter from Nashville. I told him if he backs out, I'll be rolling my pennies.

Know this is a topic I could talk hours on!! First off, I am a bass player and a avid collector. Here is my current list:
1973 Fender Jazz Bass
1979 Rickenbacker 4001
1985 G&L ElTorro
1988 BC Rich Warlock
1986 Kramer/Ferringtom acustic bass
1999 G&L ASAT Bass
2000 Spector Euro 4
Peavey T20, T30, T40 basses.
As far as amps go, I have alot. My main rig is a Hartke Stack that will shake the pics of walls. 450 watt Hartke head feed to 4x10 cab and a 1x15 cab, with alot of effects. If anybody is in the market for some older Fender gutair amps, give me a shout I will post some pics tom. when I am at my office of all my stuff. PS Jeff, post some pics of your older Les Pauls, would love to see them.

weim, will do, have my custom sitting right next to me. The Standard is a different story, after getting completely lucky finding it in the paper about ten years ago for $1500, and then once purchasing it and finding out it's true value, I keep it locked up in a seperate location from me and play it about every couple of months. I originally started playing because I really liked Jimmy Page, and he is still one of my favorite players (even though there are better skilled out there). So I wanted an old standard, simmilar to what he played, this was supposed to be a '69 standard. Well I got there and saw the serial number was split in the back and immediatley new it was older than what he said, then looked at the back of the volume and tone pots and saw the date on them and crapped my pants. I offered him $1200, bought it and then went straight to a vintage guitar place in New Orleans to see if what I thought I had I had. They then offered me $30K for it on the spot, said no way. I'll try and dig up a picture of it lying around here. I LOVE Les Pauls, I really like the tone on them and feel you can play a mean slide on them.
