i've read that j grisham article before,, good un for sure..
moving on...
for years now it has somewhat frustrated me as to how many pitches we take.. i know that is part of polk's philosphoy, but still i hate to see our batters always end up in the hole...
can't really argue with the man, he's only won 1000 or so basball games at msu.,..
but still, i'd prefer a little more aggressive approach at the plate..
alas.. he's a baseball coach and i'm a wannabe professional duck hunter.. so i think we will follow polk's plan

yea duckiller i realize that and i think other people do too, and yea camlock i know that baseball is truefully one of if not the only game where pretty much anything can happen, but it is still also a game where u should put away the little guys..........thats why msu and lsu and everyone else plays games like uab and bham southern and teams like that for mid week games, it sure aint to loss to them.......

and yea i do also realize what one single arm can and cant do for a team,,,,thats not hard.........but, and i wasnt there, was that the case last night, did bham run out a prospect?

yea they did run out a prospect, he was their ace and showed it. Not takin away from him at all cause he really should have gotten a W last night, but the ump blew a call at 1st and then they made an error to load the bases. His fourth hit given up was a two run go ahead double. all I'm sayin is that its a good thing Bham so. choked, cause we should have lost that game last night and it was due to not swingin the bats. when every 1st pitch had gone for a strike all night then you have to at some point decide to not watch one, especially when your losing late in the game 4-2.
when your a hitter, no matter how good you are its hard to produce when your 0-2, 1-2 in the count and that happened too much last night....not to mention we watched a couple of strike 3's go by.

well for the 20 years I have watched MSU baseball I can say that Ron Polk has never changed the way he does things and he always makes a batter watch the 1st pitch. Now we did sit there and look at alot of 3rd strike pitches and have done so all year but you guys have got to stop putting this BSC team down they came here to play hard just like they always do and did a fine job of it. This team is alot like USM and they are a tuff opponet for a mid week game they are not like Alcorn and Jackson State they always have a good ball club and always play well here in Stark Vegas. Now we will not win every mid week game or every weekend game and thats a fact so why cant everyone quit putting a good team down. My guess is that half of the folks on here talking bad about BSC were not at the game last night and did not see them play.
Hillhunter you are right we sat there with the bat on our sholders to much last night and it liked to have cost us the game(and should have), the home plate umpire was awful and had no clue what a strike was. I feel that when this team looks back on this season they are will see how many times we had bases loaded with 1 out and how many times we had runners in scoring poss. with 1 out and score nothing. We have a good baseball team one of the better ones we have had in a while in my oppinion and we are gonna win some games but when this team starts hitting the ball they are gonna win and win big.

hillhunter u make alot of good points, i liked everything u said, smart guy.........
the only thing i was wonderin about is if that was their ace, i was told by a buddy of mine(who is a msu player today) that that was that pitchers first start of the season this year for bham southern, said that he was their go to guy out of the pen but that was his first start of the season

Their ace is Hyenick, played 1st base last night and also hit a bomb. He shut us down in his start last week I believe, luckily got his pitch count up to where they had to pull him.

We didn't play them last week this is the first time we have played them all year. You are right though he is not there ace b/c he did play 1st last night and he is the one that homered to left

ok then I must have been confused about their pitching lineup....same thing here it was just hearsay in LFL about the pitcher.....but the way he was pitching it looked like their ace....bet he gets to start more often now

well we won it 9-2 and the only diff b/t last nights game and todays game is we swung the bats we beat a real good team this week and should have lost last night but like one of there parents told me they blew it last night just like they did against bama and Tenn. they did manage to beat Auburn but errors are killing these guys

I hate to disagree with you guys, but I do not believe taking pitches is a part of Coach Polk's philosophy. The only time I have known him to have a batter take a first pitch would be if the first two batters in the inning got out on first pitches, he may have the third batter take just to make the pitcher throw at least 4 pitches in the inning. The only other time would be if a pitcher has thrown 12 balls in a row (walked 3 batters), he would probably tell the batter to "make the pitcher throw a strike" In fact, I think Coach Polk will tell you to go take your hacks! I think that is evident by how little State bunts.....swing away!
As far as last nights game against Birmingham Southern, their coach (Shoop) used to be at State. For whatever reason, State has struggled at times against lefties.......he knew it and that's all he threw at us last night...but it didn't work

your right stich all he threw us last night was leftys and it almost got us and yes he was a state a few years and was a good coach while he was here. But hey I am just glad that tonight we started hitting and scoring runs when we had men in scoring position with no one out or 1 out, we started doing that and look how the game ended up. When we start hiting the ball well and get some of these injured players back(that we haven't missed much due to our depth) we are gonna have a hell of a team. But hey in this league everyone is good and every weekend is tough no matter what the other guys record is.

hey duckiller, did that parent tell u what planet they were visiting here from.............they have not any played tenn this year and made only two errors to bama's four in a 7-6 loss to bama, and out of the two errors only one accounted for a run, errors didnt kill them that game..........
