thanks guys, what lense color do you recommend?

I have had 2 pair. Both in the "Deep Blue" frames.

First pair: green mirrored glass lenses (brown glass on inside).
Pros: excellent clarity in direct sun
Cons: too dark for fishing in the shadows and glass lense too heavy (constantly sliding down my nose)
I drove over these with an F250 and guess what?....they broke....but not as bad as I would have expected - and NO, I didn't ask Costa del Mar to replace them, since it was my boneheaded mistake.

2nd pair: sunrise polycarbonate lenses
Pros: great for all light conditions including shadows. Polycarbonate lenses are lighter weight. Less expensive.
Cons: Polycarbonate lenses scratch more easily than glass. Sunrise colored lenses look too geeky for street wear.

Being an optometrist and dealer for Costa, Maui Jim, Keanon, and Solar Bat, I have a few opinons on glasses. I have about four pair of Costas, and think they are the best going for the price and pretty close to the best going not comparing price. All of the above companies stand behind their products, if you scratch them they will replace them at a cut rate, if they get scratched due to a defect, life time warranty. If the mirroring becomes a problem lifetime warranty. If the frame breaks due to defect, lifetime warranty, if you break it they will replace it and normally at a reduced rate.
As far as styles on the frames, go with what you are comfortable with. As far as lenses each have their advantages for situations. Fishing in brown river type water an amber polarized lens will give you the best view. Fishing Offshore in blue water, gray is probably better. For hunting against a blue sky background, gray is better. Against an overcast sky, orange or brown is the best. Mirroring also helps quite a bit. Blue water=blue mirror. Green works very well in somewhat mirky scenarios. Hope that helps. As far as price, Costa and MJ set their prices, if you break it in your dealership contract it's a $10,000 fine, so you should have equal prices weather you go to a box store or someone local. Therefore I would suggest helping a little guy out, but then again I HATE deparment stores and won't buy from them.

Eyedoctor Jeff, is this why when you turn your head sideways while wearing the glasses, the sky gets "bluer"?

Yes, you loose polarization when you turn your head sideways. Just like if you take two pairs of polarized sun glasses and hold them at 90 degree angles to each other it blackens everythingout and you can't see through them. The polarization filters are then filtering out light in the 180 and 90 degree meridians andyou can't see anything.

yep, Costa the best going, once you buy them youll never go back to any other brand. I used to get headaches from the glare during offshore fishing trips, ever since the Costas the head aches have stopped, and if any of youll ever been out on the big blue pond youll know how important a good pair of polarized specs are!!!

ive had raybans, bolle, and costas. i picked to costa's up at the bass pro outlet in spring field for 75 bucks, in the box. black frame, black lens wave killers i think! they were priced at 180.00. i got a pair of bolle' i wear at work, and they are ok, but dont compare to the comfort and wearablity of the costa del mars.

Get a pair of Costa TP2's and never think about glasses again. They're the bomb (you can get whatever colored lens and frames you want, but I like the crystal tortoise colored frames with the amber lenses...just a personal preference i guess)

costas are nice...if you are going to spend the money go ahead and get the 580 lenses..i have yet to see anything compare to them

Jeff, what is your take on the 580 lenses? you like or dislike em?

I also have 2 pair of TP2's broke one pair, sent them back and they sent me a brand new pair in 2 weeks!! Best out there!!!!!!!!! Hard to scratch

I lost my TP2's they are the best I have worn.Gona get another pair. I have 2 pair of Ocean Waves they are also very nice. Alittle heavy but a little clearer too.But both are great.

I have a pair of Costa Wave Killers that I reallly like. I do have a problem with them fogging up on cold mornings. Does anyone else have this problem?
