Besides, Palmiero said he didn't know he was taking them.....I believe him. Then again, I think Pete Rose should be in the hall as well.
Getting caught is precisely why Palmeiro shouldn't be in the Hall, and there is reasonable precedent that has already been set, but with regard to gambling, the steroid scandal of the Teens and Twenties. Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Dizzy Dean, and many others were all suspected of fixing ballgames, but there was no proof, so they were allowed enshrinement, unlike Joe Jackson and Eddie Cicotte, the only two members of the 1919 Black Sox who would have had a chance at HOF election.
Likewise, I'm pretty sure that McGwire, Bonds, Sosa, and a host of other potential HOF candidates were juicing, but that's speculation. Palmeiro was definitely on the juice; that's fact.
And, no offense, but if you believe Palmeiro's lie that he didn't knowingly take them, you're just being a myopic State fan. There is no supplement, over the counter or otherwise, that contains Stanozolol, except the steroid itself.
He did it, he got caught, and now he'll have to face the consequences.
