My wife teaches 6th grade. She'll tell you that 99% on the "No Paddle" list have no home training and the parents are more to blame than anyone. Discipline is taken out of context from the teacher to the kids to the parent.
BWM, my kids are on the 'do not paddle' list. For several reasons.. If they are in that much trouble, I will be the one to handle it. It's my job as a parent. I know the principle at my kids' schools. They do call. And my kids do know that I will come to the school and take care of any situation. Immediately.
But they also know that I will come to the school and protect them from situations... which has happened.
My mother taught in Mississippi for 31 years. My grandmother for 29 years. It's not the same now as it was then. Back then, we knew every teacher. Every one at the school. Now, everyone is too transient - teachers and students. It makes a differnce.
I'll bust that butt if it is needed. But dont lay a hand on my child without my permission, or there will be hell to pay...
