Gator, it's called 3-D Topo Quads by DeLorme.
I can put those coords. into my gps, hop in my boat and drive right down the state line.
I'm not here to argue the court case, I just want to know if the boundary lines have changed.

Since Old River is now declared private and not public, isn't it perfectly acceptable to discuss the quality of its hunting on this site? Who EVER heard of much in the way of duck hunting there?

Dear Mr. Heflin:
I write to respond to your request about the location of the Mississippi/Arkansas boundary in Old River.
Many of the maps I have seen indicate "boundary indefinite". Several of the surveys of the boundaries in this area indicate that the boundary is "meandered". This is an engineer's way of saying the boundary generally follows the watercourse.
In 1842 a natural avulsion (cutoff) created Old River. The Mississippi River changed course, took a shortcut and left a large teardrop of water and land on the east side of the new channel. In 1921, the U.S. Supreme Court decided that the large teardrop left on the east side of the Mississippi River remained under the sovereignty of Arkansas, even though the river changed course leaving the land on the Mississippi side. Old River is what remains of the Mississippi River after the avulsion. Through the decades the lake has silted in and there is little resemblance to the once mighty Mississippi. See Arkansas v. Mississippi, 256 U.S. 28 (1921).
The Circuit Court recently held that the boundary line between Mississippi and Arkansas (and thus the Miller Point boundary) follows the "thalweg" of the old Mississippi River channel. The "thalweg" is the deepest part of the channel. Therefore, it would require sonar mapping to determine the exact boundary of the two states to locate the thalweg.
Due to siltation the bottom of Old River is essentially flat. It would be extremely difficult to find a precise thalweg of the Old River channel, although with enough money and resources it could be done. To my knowledge, no one has precisely identified the GPS coordinates of the Mississippi/Arkansas boundary.
As a practical matter, it makes little difference. Miller Point welcomes the public to fish on Old River. Please go back and re-read my post to msducks.com and you will see that I have emphasized that Miller Point welcomes fishing on Old River.
Hunting is a different story. On that issue, the topo maps and geopolitical maps are close enough. They all indicate that the east side of the east bay is in Mississippi. That portion of the lake is owned by the Mississippi Levee Board which welcomes hunters. The west side of the east bay and the entirety of the west bay and the entirety of the peninsula are owned by Miller Point and is posted.
I hope this answers your inquiries. If you need more information, please give me a call 662-627-4477. I have a number of maps, photos and plats which are helpful.
Thanks,
Michael T. Lewis
