I don't know who owned the landing. Kirby died several years back. I think it was closed for a while after his death, then it opened back up. I also figured it was an "accident".

Yep, used to got to the Landing on weekday afternoons, drink beer, and shoot pool. Then drive on up 45 to John's Texaco, buy quart beers and ride out to Tibbee creek to drink more beer. Then by sundown head back to Starkville to go out to some joint there - as I look at this diploma on my wall, I sometimes wonder - "how'd I get that?"

Anybody old enough to remember Echol's? It was south of the Crossroads about a mile. Mr. E was an institution.

I remember being there one night after the first concert deal up at Mossy Oak. Had to be 1000 people in the building and parking lot. Huge fight, saw a girl take a beer bottle to the head. Did not seem to phase her though.
The first Thursday after school got back in the fall was always exciting.

Bay, I'm think a guy that we used to call "Pickle" bought the place not very long ago. Most everybody that went to school at State knows who Pickle is. The guy was a bouncer at just about every bar in Starkville and Columbus.
