All of the hoopla with these high tech guns could boil down to something a friend said to me earlier this year while duck hunting together. He asked "Why you would go back to shooting an old style Browning A5? They come out with newer and better guns every year."

After hearing that I realized some hunters are not much different than women shoppers. Women might want the latest greatest style in shoes while some hunters must have the newest hottest guns on the market and therefore fall prey to the marketing gurus. And nobody markets better than BENELLI if only half of these stories about them falling apart are true.

Browning invented the semi-auto and made the A5 for around 100 years not being able themselves to come up with a better more reliable model. When they discontinued making A5's I wonder if it was because of human nature more than having come out with a better product.

I HAD A SBE ONCE,BROKE 2 EJECTOR PINS IN ONE SEASON. IT WOULD NOT CYCLE THE SHELLS IN COLD TEMPS,AND YOU HAVE TO SHOOT HIGH BRASS DOVE LOADS ,BECAUSE THE DAMN THING WON'T CYCLE A 1 OZ.LOAD.I DID LEARN MY LESSON THOUGH,YOU DON'T HAVE TO SPEND $1200 DOLLORS TO GET A GOOD DUCK GUN,IT ONLY TAKES $250.

I'LL STICK TO THE OL 870,SHE'S NEVER FAILED TO FIRE!!!!!!!!

I ordered the SBEII last April only owed $165 in Nov. Picked it up and started shooting. I have only shot about 650 rounds thru it, but it is sweet. Over 500 rounds were hevi #4.

You lov'em or you hat'em!

Give it 5 more years and see how "SWEET" it is. The damn thing is made of recycled beer cans for Gods sake. Just an over priced piece of crap as far as I am concerned. :x

Cotten if they were to come out with an A-5 3 1/2 made the "old way" it would be the best duck gun ever built. I don't know if they could do this or not, may be too stressful for the parts used. Don't you know that thing would kick though.

I also bought the sb2 4 days before season. after hunting with it for 2 weeks the max 4 camo job started flaking off in chunks. i called benelli and they gave me a RA to return it and im sending it back this week. the lady at benelli said that they would probably keep the gun and use it as a demo or whatever they do and send me a new one. but it will have a for sale on it as soon as i get it back. going back to the browing or the x2. the freakin benelli has jammed many times this year in crucial situations..jt

It's not very isolated at all. I've been with two different people when this same thing happened to them, and one was not so lucky. His came off in about 3 feet of water on a 23 degree day. The other had already had it happen once and was using the replacement barrel Benelli had sent him.

David hit the nail on the head you luv em or hate em. This is the 11th hunting season with my SBE. It has been used as a "walking cane" in the mud, push pole in the boat, ice buster in the ice, have wore the finish off 3 times. Cleaned a couple times in those years. It has had THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of rounds thru it ( mostly heavy 3 1/2" loads). 2nd year I had it broke an extractor & ejector. Had them replaced with custom made ones and never failed to fire or cycle since until yesterday morn. Ole Benny & I were in the hole yesterday morning and I popped a big ole greenhead at daylight and when I put safety back on it felt funny. Kept working the safety but trigger wouldnt pull. Took it apart in the boat cleaned the 3" of crap built up inside out of it and proceeded to go on and pop many more rounds and quite a few birds. Best gun I have ever owned and I have over 50 shotguns right now in my safe...wouldn't even think bout using another gun. Got another new one been in the box for about 8 years now just in case I ever wear it out. Guess they're good & bad ones, just like any other thing. 8)
