If you are talking thick being flooded brush and not trees get a mud motor. Innertubes work great but when you are 4 feet around walking through brush they can bee a real pain.

Lash off your canoe/ghenoe/pirogue fore and aft to some brush/trees. If you orient your canoe the right way, you can still get a fairly good field of fire while sitting down.

If you can wade to the edge just take an ol fold up fishing rod with a plug with no hooks to retrieve yo birds with. Even if the hunting dies down you can always practice cast.
When you have shot one bird flying you have shot all birds flying. They are all different and they fly in different ways but the sensation is the same and the last one as good as the first.

I use the tube to set out and pick up decoys, then I retire to the trees to hide, if I have to hunt a place like that. Remember the deeper places sometimes take a day or two longer to freeze.

You should be VERY careful in that tube. I strongly recomend a like jacket. Buy a good tube with a cordura cover to reduce the risk of a puncture. You propel yourself with fins. Its not a bad idea if you can mangae it to somehow attach a long beaver stick to float behind the tube in case you lose your fins. You should practice putting on fins over waders and getting into the tube ahead of time. Don't forget to attach the decoy bag string to your tube, else it may get away from you.

And no, the ducks don't seem to be concerned about a guy out in the middle in a float tube. It's kinda hard to shoot out of one, though.

Cypress Brake Question

Yeah, back when it was good and cold right before Christmas, everything around was frozen solid, except about a fifty yard square patch in the middle of the brake....had about 200 green fat heads sitting right in the middle lookin at me at daylight. It was awesome.
He's comin' back around...

Gumbo,.... Try a "float tube",.... "belly boat",.... whatever ya callem !

If those birds ain't been messed with,.... you'll only need about a half-a-dozen dekes !

Iffin you haven't anything to tie to, use a light anchor,.... tied to the back of the tube, (to turn your back to the wind) !

Been there,.... done that !

It works !!!!

Compliments of an MSU boy ! :D

Good luck !
