It could. Let's hope we don't have to worry about it. NWS forecasts I just looked at didn't call for that much for Anguilla (Greenville basically) but I don't know what it's saying for Belzoni or Leland. It looks like some of it may be snow but it's going to melt so that's still just more rain.
It's hard to tell how much it'll jump when the water's this high since it has more room to spread out - and it can get high enough to go over a ridge and fill in a huge low spot somewhere.
Hopefully in another day or so there will be enough water past Vicksburg that the MS and Yazoo can drain quickly - once the Yazoo started going down it slowed the fall at Vicksburg. If it ever starts falling between 1 and 2 feet like places upriver we shouldn't have to wait as long for the gates to open.
Be careful out there, WM.

It ain't looking great, but at least the rains have been scattered so far. It must have come a flood right at the gates, almost 2 inches in a short period - but less than an inch at the Vicksburg gauge and 3/4 of an inch on the Sunflower at Hwy 14. Some places a lot less than that. Of course all my students want to know if the snow will keep them from school.

I'm over here going to Hell with that - I hope all the precipitation stops now...

What ever happen to the proposed pumps? Close Steele Bayou gates and use siphon or pump to control water level in South Delta area. Works in 'Nawlins drainage canals in heavy rains MOST times. Biggest pumps in da world for the purpose of dewatering a city. Makes our 6' tall impellers on my dredge look like babies at 14' impellers!
