No said that it looks like it's about a 25% chance that he is an really great college QB. I see about three, maybe four who were really great. There is a difference in having a successful career and being the guy on the field who has the ability to single handily change outcomes of games. He may be the best thing to come along since the front pocket on a t shirt, but you nor I nor any 'evaluator' knows. All I was showing is that as far as the rankings of these high school players go, QB is by far the hardest to evaluate, and I would say it's not more than a 50-50 shot in the dark as far as how a kid pans out, probably more like 30%.crenshawco wrote:hillhunter wrote: Of this list how many really panned out?
You think only 25% of these "panned out?" I see 8 that I would say had very successful college careers. Two of the failures were at LSU and Les is a QB killer. It shocks me that any top rated qb would even consider LSU.

Re: Shea Patterson commits to Rebs
I think Patterson will likely break records at Ole Miss. He has a Todd Marinovich nature to his up-bringing. He dad has basically raised him to be a QB...to the point of uprooting his entire family for greener football pastures. He is built to succeed. Moreover, if you are accurate on short throws in Freeze's offense, you are going to put up big numbers. That is Patterson. Bo Wallace will be managing a Wendy's in Pulaski this time next year and he owns the OM record book in passing over the #1 overall pick in 2004 and a future hall of famer in Eli Manning.
It is the system that makes many college QBs when the system meets the strengths of that particular young man. Freeze's system is perfect for Patterson.
At this juncture, he will start as a redshirt freshman, after sitting a year behind Kelly. He will be a four year starter IMO because there is not much a market in the NFL for spread offense QBs that are under 6'2". The numbers he will put up will be insane...especially with the WR talent around him.

all the fan talk about stars not mattering and trying to imply its fools gold it just stupid...looks at the perennial top 10 college football teams and then look at the perennial top rated recruiting classes...proof is in the pudding so to speak...
YES, lower rated players turn into stars and highly rated players don't pan out...SOMETIMES...by in large high ranked HS players are impact players players at the next level and make quality teams. Also, a couple underrated and a couple overrated players get you a team in the SEC with not enough depth to win consistantly.
Shea Patterson might not be much, he might be an all-american...but I'd rather sign a 6'2" 5 star than a 6'4" 3 star and see what happens every single year, arguing that point is just hoping for the best

Re: Shea Patterson commits to Rebs
Both sides of this are correct. Shea Patterson may or may not be a great QB at Ole Miss. But the thing he does bring is recruits. Several players have said they want to play with Patterson and with Ole Miss already having the #2 WR in the nation it is likely the Rebels with have a top 5 (if not #1) class in 2016.
You can argue that Patterson may be great or may flop but you cant argue what a huge impact he will have on the Rebels program even if he never plays a down.

Re: Shea Patterson commits to Rebs
If Patterson had committed to Alabama or LSU, people nationally would assume that he will be a savior (like Barnett or Fournette). Ole Miss has not reached a level of success in which people just assume that their 5 stars will be successful like they do at a few other SEC schools. I think that time is right around the corner though.camlock wrote:all the fan talk about stars not mattering and trying to imply its fools gold it just stupid...looks at the perennial top 10 college football teams and then look at the perennial top rated recruiting classes...proof is in the pudding so to speak...

I think Ole Miss, if they can split with Auburn and Alabama and if Kelly is as good as Bo Wallace was, likely wins the West this year and has a good shot a making the playoff. They are as talented as any team they will play, excluding Alabama. They are as well coached as any team they will play, perhaps excluding Auburn and Alabama. They have four 2016 1st rounders on the team right.
This is the year. You then follow that up with a Top 5 recruiting class and the entire dynamic changes.
I really think that Ole Miss is about the change a lot of opinions in the near future under Freeze.

I'm a State fan, but I really hope that, even if it is Ole Miss, one of them can prove that Ms college football can do something other than disappoint............until then................I say combine them and let's have a real team! U of M Bulldogs, and that will take care of the mascot debacle. When we win our first NC nobody will care what our colors are!!

All of this doesn't mean jack $#!+ til he signs that LOI ......... and you've got 12 months of waiting for that.

Re: Shea Patterson commits to Rebs
He likes us. He really likes us.
Will this be the first HS recruit to play QB for UOM since Spurlock?

Re: Shea Patterson commits to Rebs
The real question is who will be trying to hire his brother after this season to get his services. No secret that he wants to play where his brother is coaching that is why he is committed to ole miss.
Re: Shea Patterson commits to Rebs
research the articles with his father after the commitment announcement. His brother going to Ole Miss doesn't appear to be the only reason he chose to go to Ole Miss, and in all reality, do you really think his brother couldn't have gotten a similar deal nearly anywhere he wanted if that's all it took to get Shea to come??? He's a GA, not a position coach or coordinator. Any major program would've given him a GA job to get the #1 QB to sign. Also, Patterson is an early enrollee...so there won't be any brother job movement after the season/before signing day...he'll already be on campus at national signing day in Feb 2016.mshunter77 wrote:The real question is who will be trying to hire his brother after this season to get his services. I personally think it's a minimum fall 2017 before he plays...That is assuming he beats out Kincaide and/or Buchanon as a RS Soph in their senior year...downplaying the commitment of the likely #1 rated QB in the country for the next class and the positive ramifications that has on the program, regardless of what he does as a player is just dumb, it's a huge momentum builder and big deal for Ole Miss football. #hateon

He is an early enrollee and OM is about to hire his brother. He is going to sign. He will be on campus for the Spring 2016 semester.
