Re: The Embarrassment That Is Les Miles
So now, just to keep you guys updated, Shoop from Penn State is out, Pendergast (that doesn't even have a job) removed his name from contention and LSU has pretty much nowhere to go now but to promote from within. What a goat-roping.
The silver lining of this for an LSU fan is that this should most certainly precipitate the departure of Miles and Alleva. Sadly, Miles gone but Alleva staying as AD may be the worst case scenario. I now have a new appreciation for Ole Miss fan's view of Pete Boone.

IN all of this I must agree no matter how you feel about Miles Alleva is worse. He will be the undoing of the entire athletic department during his tenure.

Re: The Embarrassment That Is Les Miles
Yep...it is pretty amazing. He is our Pete Boone. We still don't have an defensive coordinator. A buddy of mine that has ties to the program believes that there is chaos behind the scenes right now in the athletic department. LSU currently has no defensive line or linebacker commits in this recruiting class and has only 16 commits total. LSU could not fill its allotted number of recruits in the last class and it appears the same will be true in this class as well. It is amazing how fast it can turn to crap. Just three years ago, LSU was playing in the national title game. They seems "Miles" away from that level now. Ironically, that game ushered in the current state of affairs to one degree.Jeff wrote:IN all of this I must agree no matter how you feel about Miles Alleva is worse. You guys might be right...I don't think you are completely....either way, what's your response if Miles hires a qualified coach and it is realized he took his time because there are a lot of options for one of the top DC jobs in the world of football??? There is no reason to rush

Re: The Embarrassment That Is Les Miles
Well, Kevin Steele was hired last night. He has been fired from every DC position he has ever held, gave up 70 to West Virginia in the last game he coached as a DC...and has a history of mental breakdowns during games. If there is a silver lining to this grease fire, it is that LSU also apparently hired Ed Orgeron this morning as a DL coach and recruiter.
LSU may well have the best recruiting staff in the country top to bottom, including two individuals that have been named National Recruiter of the Year. They may also have the worst Xs and Os, game day coaches, in the SEC as well.
I expect more of the same in the end.

As of right now...Brick Haley still the D-Line coach...at least publicly. Have you heard there is something happening there?Deltamud77 wrote:LSU also apparently hired Ed Orgeron this morning as a DL coach and recruiter.

There are two rumors...one is that he is being offered an administrative role in the LSU Football Office and the other is that Peveto is leaving the program, allowing room for Orgeron to be on the staff.camlock wrote:As of right now...Brick Haley still the D-Line coach...at least publicly. I am guessing the former is likely the truth...or close to it.
Brick and Steele apparently hate each other...Steele fired Brick while at Baylor. I think Brick probably ends up at Texas A&M.
Re: The Embarrassment That Is Les Miles
the speculation is pretty much everywhere now
I wonder how long it'll be before Orgeron choke slams Les Miles?

Haha...good question
Re: The Embarrassment That Is Les Miles
As a past Miles supporter I can't spin this any way where it seems like it could end well. I hope I am wrong!
Steele seems about as unqualified to be a DC as possible beyond the fact he can recruit. I think our run was nice while it lasted will see how long it takes to hit bottom....

I agree. We will be a talented bunch of ill prepared players that leave early for the draft. The peak day of the year will be the first Tuesday in February, not the second Monday in January. The Orgeron hire (which is now official) does make me feel better about the total change over. However, I am still skeptical...very skeptical.Jeff wrote:As a past Miles supporter I can't spin this any way where it seems like it could end well. I hope I am wrong!

I see a run of 7-9 win seasons for the next three to five years and a lot of discontentment for the LSU faithful.
I am interested to see who lasts longer with their new defensive staffs, Sumlin or Miles. I think the discontentment with Sumlin is right under the surface with Texas Aggies. If Chavis doesn't work as planned, his seat will be hot too in 2016.

Re: The Embarrassment That Is Les Miles
Interesting side note:
I am told by someone reliable that initially LSUs main target was Kirby Smart (several LSU media members have actually publically stated that is who they were hearing all along - after the fact). Word is that he was seriously considering the move and Bama made him an offer he could not refuse in unofficially, officially telling him he will be Saban's heir to the throne.
Weird how Texas A&M stealing LSUs DC coordinator, caused LSU to pursue Alabama's DC, causing Alabama to have to offer a future head coaching job to Kirby Smart when Saban retires (assuming this is true). The SEC butterfly effect.

Re: The Embarrassment That Is Les Miles
Delta, I have heard similar. The thing I haven't heard is WHY Kirby Smart would consider a lateral move from Bama to LSU. It just makes no sense to me, and it seems like the deal was close to happening.
Re: The Embarrassment That Is Les Miles
The reasons I have heard was that he wanted to move out from Saban's shadow and prove he could coach. I am sure he wants a head coaching job eventually.
I would have loved to give him that opportunity.
