Here are some comments from the OM Rivals private board----it's insane how angry people get over crap like this---I liked the comment about Ray Rice knocking his girlfriend out then having video of him drag her out of an elevator and there was 1 response to that-----but someone throws a noose around an inanimate object and it's time for war.....

I have two degrees from Ole Miss and I'm from Virginia originally. The vitriol for out-of-state students on this site is plain dumb...our university and Oxford wouldn't be 1/2 the place it is without our out-of-stater students.
That being said: no matter where the people are from that put a noose around the statue...they ought to be held accountable, expelled from the University (after all, Ole Miss is a place for HIGHER learning) and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

What a ridiculous thing to say...talk about ignorance. Who gives a $#!+ where these idiots came from. What they did was dispicable and they should be punished severely. I didn't get into UGA and decided to go to Ole Miss. Does that put me in the same boat as these guys? GFY. Last time I checked my bank account Ole Miss also got around $100,000 of my out of state tuition money as well.

If these guys did it, they need to receive the symbolic kick in the nads from Ole Miss, and they need to be permanently expelled. In addition, the alumni association (or whoever can do it), ought to file a civil suit against these knuckleheads for damages. I don't think there is true vitriol for out of state students. Most welcome them and see them as an integral part of Ole Miss.

Beetles, I totally agree with your point of the contribution of out of state people at Ole Miss. But I have to add something for you to think about. We have so many students from Ga and Texas whom do not have the credentials to attend their flagship state school or the better private schools . Their parents enjoy our symbols of the south that we defend. We get poor behavior choices from some of these kids, because they think it's okay here.
I believe the educated class in Mississippi is different . The civil rights movement in our state changed when this class decided it wasn't okay to stand by in silence at the attocities happening.
I hope these kids aren't in the fraternity as that kid from Ga. they posted the interview in the grove several years ago. He was from Ga. and dropping N-bombs left and right.

What exactly can these freshmen be charged with over the noose and the flag and are the laws city, state and federal?
These kids made a bad choice--likely a whisky choice. OM took a blackeye from those that don't know how much OM has done to eliminate bigotry and make OM a university for all. Unfortunately, there are always those that do these acts and those that love to belittle the South and especially Mississippi. However, in my opinion things have gotten better because the papers, the broadcast media and the internet has basically blown it off it seems. I hope other freshman and students are ticked off as we are about this. And I hope they identify these students and shame them. There is nothing funny about this or nothing acceptable about this. My son is a senior at Ole Miss and he is pissed. He told me two nights ago that he bet is was freshman, fraternity guys from Georgia.
I saw today in another article where a black girl at the retreat apartment complex was yelled racial slurs from a truck passing by.
Read another article from last years ASB president, who had many good things to say, but she put up with several incidences of insults and slurs.

FF I asked that ? on fire away Friday and didn't really get an answer (understandable since Chase/Neal are lawyers). While obviously wrong I'm not sure what was actually illegal about it. I don't think you would have much of a case for vandalism when no actual damage was done. FF: what a breath of fresh air! Imagine asking what laws they may have broken, before advocating punishment! What these characters did is despicable, but who know if they broke any laws? I don't have any vitriol for ooss's. I have good friends that were from out of state. Hell, I moved out of state once done w/ college for job purposes. However, OM should reevaluate their admission requirements for out of state students. Not saying a MS resident wouldn't or hasn't done something dumb or racist while at OM but doesn't seem to happen as often.

However, in my opinion things have gotten better because the papers, the broadcast media and the internet has basically blown it off it seems. That is how it should be-all should not take the fall for the acts of three freshmen acting like fools.

I know this is tragic, the worst thing ever, a black eye, blah, blah----and the reason it gets talked about so much on here is because it happened at our school....but I find it kind of disturbing that someone started a thread a couple days ago that included a video of Ray Rice dragging his girlfriend, that he knocked out, from an elevator and treating her like a dead animal ----- and it got all of 1 response.......just odd to me.
