My little girl is 5. I killed the 1st deer this year with her at the farm. When I brought it back she was more then thrilled to help out and watch everything. Ive explained in detail why I did what I did and she understands. So now every time I go she thinks im bringing something back, another talk to is coming on that. All she wants to do is touch them and look them over completely.
But I personally think its just the kid that matters the most. My nephew is 4 and he wants nothing to do with it and freaks out. But he has never been around hunting or know anything about it bc his parents dont care for it. They refuse to let me take him on the family farm to just sit and watch, not even bring a weapon also.

Another thing with my daughter. She watches the hunting shows with me. I record them and we watch over them and we debate on stuff. That was really her 1st interest was seeing the shows. Wife didnt like me doing it but I left it to my daughter to decide if she enjoyed it or not.
May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face, and may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.
Cheers, Georgie.

Dead animals are as cmon as dirt at our house. My son eagerly shot his first deer at 7. His first duck hunt was a bit of a surprise. Four men running it to the plug in a mad swarm of waterfowl. The noise and dead birds were a bit much. After that initial baptism he was fine.

My son is 5, he went with me last week. We killed a doe and he "helped" load her up and watched the cleaning process. He is in no way traumatized and now when we eat deer meat he understands the process behind it all.

If he has not been around a dead deer and the cleaning process I would say do that first to see what his reaction is. Most kids are very curious at a young age and will be interested in learning what is going on. As many have said no set age just depends in the kid. I also think the younger you can do it the better.

My little girl was plucking doves breast out with the men at 4... My little boy is now 5... He's been knee deep in guts from pigs, deer, fish, or some sort since he was able to walk. The other day I had him digging eyeballs out of a skull mount I did.. My little girl was upset cause she didn't get to help!! LMAO.

I think the earlier the better... That way they used to it
