Man, that is a deep, well-written post. I feel like you nailed it too. Makes me sad. I may have to start calling myself a quasi-prepper.Deltamud77 wrote:As painful (and bloody) as it will be, the only way this mess gets fixed is if the entire system collapses. We need to hit the reset button and start over. Many nations have had to learn this the hard way to gain back freedoms...look at the former soviet union and Germany as prime examples.
I disagree that this assures that the Democrats take back the House...the numbers are just not there for them. They will likely maintain the Senate. The demographics have shifted enough in this nation that it is exceedingly unlikely that we will see another GOP president. Romney won the independent vote going away and still lost in near landslide fashion to Obama. As long as the Democrats run a candidate that will get their vote out on election day, then we will never see another GOP president.
I do think that 100 years from today, historians will look back at this day...October 1, 2013, as the day the US died...the final, fatal blow was thrown and landed in the implementation of Obamacare. It is just shuffling deck chairs from this point forward.
In reality, Obamacare is just a manifestation or symptom of what we have become. We no longer have statesmen in politics...but that is just a manifestation of expectation of the voting populous. The people don't require greatness, therefore they don't get it. The don't require accountability, so it is not there. They don't require competence, so there is no competence. They people don't love this country so why would those they elect to office love it either.
I am not a doomsday prepper...not a person that predicts a societal reset or collapse in impending fashion. However, if the day comes when those that have voted their personal interests over the interests of the nation stop receiving their checks and support, the calamity that will ensue shortly thereafter will be something to behold. I hope Christ comes back for his people before they day inevitably comes about.

Here is the only chink in their armor. Obama is a great salesman and campaigner. But - and it took over five years to show and prove it to the majority of Americans - he cannot produce. He cannot actually DO anything. As a President, he has proven himself to be absolutely nothing more than a loud-mouth who is completely incompetent.Deltamud77 wrote:As long as the Democrats run a candidate that will get their vote out on election day, then we will never see another GOP president.
IF, and I know that is a very big "IF", the Rebublican Party wants to take control of the Senate and/or the White House, they must simply man up and prove that they deserve it. So far, nobody in D.C. has proven themselves worthy of the office (in both parties). Remember, President Obama was reelected by being a slick salesman, and sounding like a Republican.
Nobody owes you anything.

I personally think Obama was reelected because he is a manifestation of the current citizens of this nation. A man like him would not have even sniffed the White House even 20 years ago. Like it or not, he represents the thoughts of the people. Moreover, he (and all democrats) have the media in their corner now more than any time in the past. He who controls the message, controls the people. Think about it like this, Obama controls the executive branch (meaning not only the WH, but all agencies) as well as the Senate...yet who is receiving all of the blame for the government shutdown on the nightly news...the GOP (that only controls the House...the lesser of the two branches of congress).
Why is the government shut down? Because we are at yet another debt ceiling limit (they happen more frequently under Obama than any other president) and because of Obamacare going into effect (of which not ONE republican voted for when it passed Congress).
Now, strategically, the GOP may have overplayed its hand. Time will tell. I remember not too terribly long ago that Obama said the sequester (which was his idea) would ruin the country, kill military and throw granny off the hill. As it turns out, the sequester is actually, potentially a good thing...simply a belt-tightening moment in history...much needed at that.
While Obama and his complicit media are simply playing politics, it is always healthy to remember why Obama is in power....the votes of millions of Americans that think just like him.

Chris Mathews wrote a book called Tip and the Gipper: When Politics Worked. While I'd maybe argue how well it worked even then, it's a good lesson in how two strong leaders with vastly different beliefs and politics could, and did, work out deals that were good for the country. Neither one won every time, but each could pull together something when the chips were down and get business done.

I don't understand how those of you can equate doing the right thing (what house republicans did in this effort to defund O care) to negative outcomes.
If you do what is right then then the results will be right.
The key is for republicans to stick to the game plan. Hold the line. If they do, then they will win this battle. The president is the one refusing to compromise.
Hold the line.
And if Cochran and Wicker are your senators and you haven't contacted them by now with a message of "down with you", then you ought to be damned ashamed. They are RINOS.
They must go. They MUST GO.
IT'S TIME TO PURGE THE ESTABLISHMENT GOP.
The demographics are changing. There is a whole generation coming up who DESPISE government. The conservative way is the way of the future. Call your representatives and tell them to hold the line!
If you want to see change, get off your as sses and call our boys and girls in the house and tell them to hold the line. TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT!
Sit aside and expect someone else to do it and we will see where we are at.
They are doing exactly what all of us have wanted them to do- balls up and take a stand. And now, WE cower down.
F' em, feed em fish heads. To hell with them all. If they ain't with us, they are against us.

You do realize we're talking about politicians..? There is no "good guys that do what's right win" with them. It's all personal agenda, and can be as simple in most cases as "where am I gonna get my next piece of "BEARDED CLAM"", and in all cases REELECTION... They are all just chess players, and we're the knights, pawns, etc... History repeats itself, and eventually all civilizations are going to get flushed down the toilet, especially those that have a few thinking/acting for, and regulating the masses. The biggest tragedy is that half of the "citizens" in this country didn't even go vote... What is that about? Too stupid to even care? All faith and trust in the government? God? The stars?
The only people on earth that have lived the same way, and however they want for millennia are living in $#!+ and mud huts with grass roofs, hunting and gathering to survive...trusting in themselves and their brother. All others live by someone else's rules, love it or hate it.
If the shoe was on the other foot, there would be just as many people on the other side talking about the sky is falling.
At times there is not a satisfactory substitute for well-aimed lead going down range at high velocity.

With apologies to gubment workers, I can't see from my hill that the gubment has shut down. Just maybe it's a sign the gubment could actually do more with less. Oh yes, before you say it, I saw where the couple couldn't get married at the Grand Canyon because of the shutdown....

Yeah, I have friends that are on furlough right now from this, but it seems to me that what the deem to be "non essential" is AKA, you are not needed
to begin with. These are not good financial times in our country. When you are trying to balance a budget and get your bills paid off, you don't go out
and hire "non essentials". Seems like if there is a job to be done, then the job is an essential piece to the puzzle. If I were a government employee on
furlough right now, I'd be re-evaluating my career choices, because I wouldn't want to work somewhere that I was deemed non essential to the success
of the business.

All of you guys that employ people in your businesses know that state law requires that you run your new hires through the E-verify system to verify that the new employee is indeed in the country legally. That system has been shutdown by the "shutdown". Of course, from what I am hearing, there is no contingency plan in place.

Really? Park service is nice to have but is a type of thing that can be put on hold during a shutdown as it is not about life, health, or security of our country. I was put on a list of exempt from frulough positions because we always have to have a Lic. Deck Officer and a Lic. Engineer on watch on a ship. I am with the ACOE. We kept 8 people here at the dock. Does that mean the other 18 people are not needed? No. We are tied up hooked up to shore power and NOT opperating generators and other machinery. We could not suck mud with just 8 on here. We CAN sit at the dock wit 4 min. @ peeps per 12 hr. watch) but we would get hungry!

My argument was for the furlough people, not against. Maybe I worded it wrong. What I mean is that the government has a large amount of "non essential"
personel. Seems like bloated employment rolls to me, or the people that are furloughed are necessary and should not be furloughed. No different than a
private company when they have layoffs in slow times, they keep the people that are necessary. If you are not necessary, then you shouldn't get too upset
when the cutbacks are needed. Again, we are in tough economic times. The "nice to have" things need to be cut back for the greater good.

91% of the IRS is considered non-essential. 93% of the EPA is non-essential. 74% of the WH staff is non-essential. 94 of the Department of Education is non-essential.

FWI: Might be the driveby media calling those folks "non esential", but we use the term "exempted" and "non exempted"(from furlough) employees. Carry on.
