Re: Documenting my new floor install for your pleasure updat
Looks good!! I def. say leave the sand and finish to the pros. If you dont mind me asking what was the square foot price quoted? ( is that 1/2 x 5" New heart pine not end matched nor grooved on bottom for glue? just planks? tongue and groove?) Trying to see the price difference between the Coast and yall)

Re: Documenting my new floor install for your pleasure updat
It is 1/2 5in new pine not matched or t&g but it does have the grooves for glue. 10 ft planks at $1.10 per sq ft not linear foot like some quotes I got.
Best price I have found around for sand and finish is $2.25
I have a couple hollow sounding spots on a couple boards. They are not bowed just if you tap on them is just the right spot they have that sound. Is there anything I should do to fix that before finish or is some of those spots expected and acceptable. This is not large areas just a small spot in a board. You can't tell a difference walking on it just me being OCD and knocking on boards this morning.

Price sounds about right on the sand and finishing. I would go look at the work and check ref. Let them make some samples of the stains on your product. Make sure they have comp and liability insurance.. If your going dark adding stain to the finish will effect durability. For the hollow spots, get yourself a dri-tac kit and some heavy weights to hold down the repair.

Work slowed thanks to a hammer to the thumb while trying to bang out a little high spot on concrete. Will post some pics of X-ray tonight. Bone is in pieces

Just for the record, his thumb looks a lot worse in person.....

Re: Documenting my new floor install for your pleasure updat
Did they drill a hole in your fingernail? If not I would, some don't like to do that but I think it helps let the pressure and that blood have somewhere to go.
But most important to this project.... Did you bleed on the floor?

Good job on the floor, although some might argue that doctors should stick to healing their patients and leave carpentry to carpenters!

Jim you sound like my wife...
but from now on I think I am going to leave future projects to the pros. I am however going to gimp through this one this weekend before the finishers get to the house monday.

No hole in the nail. It came about half off after I hit it so it is not building pressure. My thumb was laying flat on the foundation when I hit it and I was swinging the hammer as hard as I could. I was getting kinda pisses at this little piece that wouldnt come up (it is up now). And yes I bled on the floor... and the carpet in the bedroom and the garage. Heck I bled for 24 hours after I hit it. I probably would not have gone to get it xrayed if it would have quit bleeding. It has stopped today.wingman21 wrote:Did they drill a hole in your fingernail? Holy cow that sounds bad. Sounds like outcomes that I have when undertaking projects like this. It gets expensive fixing what I break.bulldog ducker wrote:No hole in the nail. Huge thanks to Countryboy20 (clark) for staying around until about 1 am to help me finish up. Just talked to my finisher and he should be there this afternoon to start.
