It hurt Mississippi State when the SEC went from playing 2 on Saturday / 1 Sunday.......to the current Friday, Saturday, Sunday format.

I understand why they did it.......so most schools could get an "extra" gate. When you live in cities the size of Baton Rouge, Gainesville, Columbia, etc....it's easy to draw 10K from a "local" area. Starkville is a small town, so the Bulldog fan base was coming from a larger area.

Tons of people would drive in from all over the state for the Saturday double header, spend the night, then drive home after the Sunday game. Most Mississippians don't have a bunch of $$$$.......so it started getting expensive for people to spend 2 nights in Starkville every baseball series. Back in the day, I remember you had to "know someone" to get a hotel room in Starkville on Saturday night of baseball weekends. Now......not so hard.

Going to the current format has hurt Bulldog overall attendance.

One other thing........for starters, no question in my mind the size of the crowd at the game Saturday. Huge! At the same time, I am pretty certain I have seen much larger crowds at several NCAA Regional games in Starkville. Not accusing the University of anything.......but I believe they place a bid for a regional, plus the NCAA gets $$$$ for every ticket sold. I have seen several Regional crowds of 12,000 or so announced, that I know were just as big or much bigger than the Saturday crowd........just my 2 cents.

I liked the double header days. Also agree #s seem different sometimes, but honestly with the big crowds I can not tell the difference between 11,500 and 13,000. Was there the first day of the super regional vs. Clemson and thought it was not as large a crowd as was announced. For whatever reason I have seen MSU play Florida among huge crowds more than any other team.

1, 4, 8, 9, 19, 20..................would have loved to have been at MSU vs Fl St

Also remeber 2 more very large crowds that must have been just shy of making the list....Maniscalco first year vs Alabama and a huge crowd vs. UT that was a few years before the 2010 game listed. Any game over 10,000 is big. What is cool about the list too is that LSU packed their facility in Feb and Mar a few times.

Do these counts include only the humanoids? or do they also include all the "stockoids" on or near the grounds (swine, bovine, and equine)?

I say the numbers are rigged. Its a damned conspiracy I tell ya.

Process is very similar to counting football National Championships and SEC Champoinships where you never go to Atlanta or actual Championship game.......lots of room for interpretation.

It is a very good question though.......I can tell you in 1989 when the record was set, only "butts in the seats" were counted. Today, I believe "paid" attendance is counted.....not that State is doing anything fishy, it's just how all schools are reporting these days.

I was there, left field bleachers about 20ft from the bullpen. I swear Burke's shot never got over 15-20 feet high in the air. I've seen a ton of homeruns at DNF, but that was the fastest one ever off the bat, off a cracked bat at that.

I was there as well......I was about 15ft off the 1st base bag, headed towards second base :-)

The only other game that even comes close to the ending of the '90 FSU game was back in the 2000 regional vs Notre Dame when Ty Martin hit the walk off HR over the CF wall.

I might have to run down that pack of 1990 Miss State baseball cards I have at mom's when I go for Mother's Day. Pretty sure there's a baseball with your sig on my mantle too. Doesn't seem like that was 23 years ago.

This video sums up what is so special about Mississippi State Baseball. It's the Carnegie Hall of College Baseball. As you are watching this video.....hang with it.....take notice of the action 1-1/2 hours after the game.
