Swamp, You know me, I am not about to make a Cost Style box, and I am not about to make a tutorial on how to make a Stribling.

Took me too many hours of trial and error to figure out how to make an old Style box. Great post my friend. While in Nashville I was able to put in an order for a custom knife to shim and burnish the sides of the box. I will have to show it to you when mine comes in. They aren't cheap, but better than the old timer that I am using. The maker does not make one unless he has a least 5 in an order.
Take care you ole Rooter. Check your PM

Chris. Definitely still making the wooden hen. You ever get near oxford bring some of your paddle calls especially the williams ..need to slip one of mine in your collection to hang out with royality.

Will do. I'm going to be hunting in FL in a few weeks and if I kill a bird early enough, I'm going to see Lamar. Fingers crossed.

Good luck CW! leave those gators alone, you killed enough!
Well long box is on it's way. Before a proper send off ,i had to make a holster. Leatherwork is an enjoyable hobby for me. A vegetable tan cow hide with a rich cordavan color stain applied seems to finish every project plus protects the box and keeps it from rattling when a sprint may be involved although my sprints are few and far between. Pictured is original long leaf heart pine plank. #50 i am sure will get a work out if i know my friend as well as i do...Ironically he owns a mouth call company!!!

Alright...I've got to have one of those holsters! I really like that. Box looks great too. I'm thinking about starting a recovery program for turkey call addicts. First step - I am powerless over turkey calls

.
Here's some recent ones:

what is the 3rd spalted box?
heres on one of my favorite long boxes i made i gave to my brother in law a couple xmas ago.. It's yellow poplar with solid black mineral streak..i like the cedar lid against the black box look..Given your vast experieince of box calls, Chris, have you seen many black long boxes?

Couple of questions for you call makers. Where do you get your wood and how many hours do you usually put into making a box call? It has to be a great feeling killing a bird with a call you made from scratch.

I wouldn't say I have a vast experience with calls, but I'm catching up...maybe I'm an overachiever
I haven't seen any black boxes, but I like that one!
The top call is a Basehore yellow heart over butternut, the middle call is a Williams red cedar over Alaskan yellow cedar, and the bottom is a Lapp yellow heart over black limba.
All I know about the yellow cedar is that Lamar fussed about it and has made very few which enhanced the price
Here is a pic of the end. Is this what you are asking about?
