I shot a doe this morning with the 180 barnes @ 172 yds. It cut her a flip on impact and its the most devasting round that I have shot out of my 35. Its ridiculous.Taint wrote:.35 for sure!!! Lot better shooting gun!! 180 gr Barnes!!!! Bad booty!!! If it kicks too bad try wearing underwear instead of panties!!! LOL....just messing! It does kick like a mofo. But use lead sled to sight in and all you got is one shot each time....no biggy!

What gun? Just bought some 180's for my Handi and I'm anxious to see if they shoot as well as the 225 Nosler's...jtdumallard wrote:I shot a doe this morning with the 180 barnes @ 172 yds. Re: 35 whelen or 45 70
35 Whelen hands down. They are mentioning kicking and such, but notice they are talking about Handi Rifles. A 35 whelen in a Encore is a bad joker. I love mine. It doesn't kick any different than a 270, 30-06 or anything else I own. I would expect a CVA APex to be real similar to the Encore. I owned a 45-70 Handi Rifle for about 1 week and sold that thing on here to go by an Encore.

I have all three 45-70, 35 whelen and 444 Marlin. I use the 35 Whelen.
The 35 Whelen has about the same perceived recoil as a 30.06. You will know you pulled the trigger, but it isn't anything that will cause you to flinch. My 45-70 in HR Handi is just not fun to shoot at all.
