"Water Dog" works. I have a 5yr old BLM that has done a great job for me retrieving and bloodtrailing. I have 6 month of BLM that I have started and is doing great.

One of the few things that I changed, is that I send my dogs to retrieve by a voice command and Mr. Wolters used the whistle.

There is another Wolter's bood called Game Dog, the basics are the same as Water Dog, he just added upland and a some changes just for the hunting retriever, that would not necessarily work for the trialer. It was a good book like Water Dog. My opinion on books when you first start training is pick one and stick with it. After you start to understand, then start reading and getting tips from others. I think I read too many books in the beginning and got myself confused. Once you understand these forums are great places for help. I am new to this forum and there appear to be some really knowledgeable people on it.
