I don't see what the difference is between following a school and not attending, than following a sport you haven't played since high school..

No school is immune from sidewalk alumni, but I think that Bama has to have more sidewalk alumnus that any other SEC school by a wide, wide margin. I suppose this is a testament to their success. People are not flocking to be UK football fans because they have always sucked. I must reluctantly admit that LSU probably runs second to Bama for fans that "bleed the colors and never attended a class" in the SEC.

You also have alot of bandwagon fans. I was carried to the first Alabama game when I was 6 in 1981. Been a fan ever since...and we have had some crappy years from now till then...CRAPPY.....

Along those same lines..I know a guy that lives down the road from me, that is a Die hard LSU fan. Been one for 4 years...He's 40. Born in MS. Never attended College..ANYWHERE. never played any sports..AT ANY TIME, but will get fighting mad about LSU games..He is a band wagon fan and an Idiot to boot.

I told him the people like him give a College a bad name. Worst thing about him is..When we have a Football Party to watch a game..He is the first one to show up and the last one to leave and runs his mouth the whole time. It's a wonder someone hasn't killed him..but he's so stupid, that it's funny. Like watching Biden speak about Winning North Carolina while he's in Virginia..

This is what makes College Football so great here in the South. From Great-Grandmas to small children and all in-between, we love our teams and show our passion annually.

Sidewalk alums do exist - some more than others. Show me a perennial loser, and I will show you a poor fan base.

Should you prefer to live in a world where only the alums are allowed to support their team, then travel to the Ivy League and see if that suits your fancy.

Pro football teams are followed very passionately in parts of our country that I do not wish to live...this is College Football Country. Cold beer, peanuts, Moon Pies and crisp Sat'dys that I look forward to each year - more than any other time. It's 365 days for many of us...some, not so much.

Take it.....or Leave it.

You are missing my point. Following and loving a football team are a whole lot different than putting a giant elephant tattoo on your back. I was speaking of the folks who act like they went to a certain school. When I tell some folks I went to MSU, they will say "Boo...we are rebels here in this house!" But not a single person went any farther than community college or even attended a class at Ole Miss. And you are waaaaaay off when referring to an NFL team. How is that even close? It's a professional team, not a school. Hey, you can be from a certain State and love the football team from that State's school, but pretending like you went there is completely different.

Maybe the "Point" is "Pointless?".

Redneck loves the Tide, got a Tat....he'll regret it one day.

In the meantime, Roll Tide.

Hey, I think the guy is stupid or putting the tatto on his back. But where did he ever say he attended the school or pretend he did? His money! His choice! A bad one in my option but not mine or yours to make. I don't care who you or anybody else supports. That's the main reason I don't comment on the sports page. Support your school and let the personal trash talk end. But with football it always turns personal

By the way, I'm not talking about you, just football fans in general. And people can talk about Bama fans all they want to but the worst fans I have ever has the pleasure of meeting were all LSU fans. In fact, I carried my daughter to an LSU game, and had I leave because of the fans!
