Let's pretend for a moment that indeed the hub does have to come off. If its is such a well known fact I would assume any mechanic worth a durn would know that the sensor is more than likely going to be damaged. If that is indeed the case why is the customer not told, "Oh, by the away

Surely a dealership wouldn't knowingly try to give a competitor a bad name, thus ensuring that you, a customer; would not use that competitors services in the future?

If its the dealership I'm thinking about, the answer is a resounding yes.

The right side was repaired yesterday and the hubs do have to come off to replace the rotors. HOWEVER, before the hub is removed the wiring harness for the ABS sensor, which is attached to the hub, should be disconnected from the electrical system and the fasteners that hold it to the suspension released. This was not done and when the hub was pulled off it broke all the fasteners that hold the wire to the suspension. Holding the hub only connected to the vehicle by the sensor on one end and to the electrical system on the other, the mechanic pulled the sensor off the hub. When the hub was placed back on the spindle the sensor was placed back on the hub, without the spacer that goes on the hub first, and the wiring harness was zip tied to the suspension. If the wiring harness were disconnected first,the fasteners released, and the harness disconnected from the electrical system; the hub would slide off with the sensor still attached and it is not to be touched while the new rotor is replaced on the hub. If this procedure were followed the sensor would not have been damaged.

Once the right side was repaired the alarm for the left side is now showing. A hub and sensor has been ordered for that side. We can see that the harness is zip tied to the suspension on that side as well and I suspect we will find the same situation.

These are my personal experiences and yours may vary. I admit when I am wrong and I was wrong about the hub coming off first. However, it is a matter of semantics because if wiring harness had been dealt with properly in the beginning and the sensor not touched, none of this would have happened.
