Ignorance is right. :D  Sorry I couldn't resist.

You can buy WMA permits anywhere that licenses are sold. Walmart, BPS, etc.....you can not buy them at Turcotte.
And if you have a lifetime sportsmans license, you dont need a WMA permit.

If you need an extra man to shoot with, just call me.
Pardon MY ignorance, but if you have a Lifetime License do you ever have to buy a WMA permit, or have I been spending $15 for no reason every year?

Didn't know that. I guess I learn something every day. When I asked the range officer at Turcotte about buying a permit a few years ago, I guess it was on Saturday.

The way I understand, you don't have to have a WMA permit period, if you have a Lifetime. But dont' quote me on that. Somebody from the Dept needs to chime in here.

you DO NOT have to buy a WMA user permit if you have a lifetime hunting license. I just bought my son one and it is a lifetime user permit included in the license fee

So who are you calling a dick? Me? Huntersmky? or the hundreds of others on this site who have lifetime licenses?

The way I understand how funding for the MDWFP works is that for every dollar in license sales, they get $3-4 in funding from the Federal Govt through the Pittman Robertson Act. And they will continue to get that money every year that I am alive, since I have a lifetime sportsman license.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.....

Talked to VIP Grand Events Catering wedding planning this past Saturday and she told us about Luckett Lodge. Its all in the Dakotas and not sure if its coming back. Said they moved it sometime October or early November.

Easy there country, he's probably talking about me since I'm the one looking for any other possible way to randomly take clients shooting without having to worry about the hassle of if and who has a WMA permits. But if you want to get in a pissing contest with him, I'm sure he'd be glad to meet you at your duck hole one morning and discuss it and whatever else comes up. Its up to you

My bad. :) I thought he was dogging the Lifetime license holders cause we don't spend money every year and we figured out that we could get out of the $15 WMA fee......
But if he was harassing you, then please proceed.

Not any choices other than Turcotte. I think Luckett moved to ND to give hunters something to do after hunting. They should be done after the season is over. If I had Turcotte I would have closed it until April 15 anyway due to past flooding problems. I understand that a new range has opened just south of Meridian at Camp Binacci. Capital Gun Club offers Skeet, Trap, and five stand and is convenient. No Sporting.

Anyone buying a Lifetime license now, if they are buying it once they are an adult, are definitely supporting the dept. Now, i'll admit, getting one like I did a long time ago for $200 and my brother a year or two later for $250 was a steal. It'll take 30-40 years to get your money back for the $1000......and the dept. ought to get good interest on that money for keeping it for 30-40 years instead of getting it $35 or so at a time.

Actually it would only take 21.27 years to pay off if you bought Sportsman and WMA every year.

Hold on now. I appologized for my misunderstanding, no need for you to be hurling insults at people you've never met.

Actually, the MDWFP gets approximately $15 back from the Feds for every hunting license sold. Some years more, some years less. This $15 originates when hunters buy hunting equipment. It is the hunter's money that supports wildlife conservation in MS. Sportsmen appreciate it.

The Lifetime License is a deal at today's price. The annual license fees will only go up with time making todays Lifetime License price pay for itself that much sooner.

A license increase is very much needed. There hasn't been a price increase in close to $20 years while everything else has gone up. Or what about a conservation tax like MO and AR has, 1/8 of 1%? That way, hunters get some help by the non-hunters in supporting wildlife management in MS.
