We took a trip down to the Detroit area today, about 200 miles. About a foot of snow here at home but only about 2 inches from Saginaw to Detroit. All the small lakes and rivers were frozen. I saw 2 small bunches of giant Canadas just north of Detroit. Some of those birds manage to stay all winter. We had -3 degrees this morning at home, but it was in the mid 20's in Detroit.

Hope the weather sends you a some birds before the season ends!

I can cite an interesting personal case:

My wife and I killed banded birds 8 days apart, less than 1/4-mile apart. The bands had the same prefixes (2357). Recovery data revealed that they were banded 6 years prior, 8 days apart, at the SAME location in Plumas, MB (obviously by the same bander). There were 1255 ducks banded during the 8-day period hers and mine were tagged.

'Makes you wonder if they traveled together those 6 years and possibly nested in the same areas they were hatched.

Interesting questions and concepts rasied in this thread.
