rebelduckaholic wrote:I always knew my dad hunted the scatters some growing up. I knew he had jordan calls and what not. He would tell me a little about it because he knew that one or two times a year I would go that way and hunt public. Well a few years back he gave me some stuff at Christmas. I got to going through it and there were tons of duck stamps signed from people that lived in that area. Turns out that my grandad either ran or owned some type of equipment store that sold duck stamps. Back then apparently when people got their new stamps they just threw these on the counter to dispose of. I took a bunch of the stamps and other older duck hunting stuff and bought a table to protect these older stamps.

Fast forward to reading this thread and I decided to go look at who all names I recognized. I saw several that were CM Jordan duck stamps from late 60's early 70's. Also found Frankie Tominello and Johnny Barrett duck stamps. Since I didn't live there I have to see the names to even know how to make out some of these signatures

Also mentioned in this article was the JT Beckhart calls. Well he gave me several calls that same Christmas. I got to looking the calls up and started researching them and low and behold was a four panel checkered Beckhart Call. He had no clue what he had. Well with having small children and not wanting to be responsible that call got out of my house rather quickly
Was it Campbell's Sporting Goods? Jimmy Wells?

Bill, were you ever able to see the 8mm footage that was shot in the Scatters in the early 60's that Mr. Son supposedly had? If I remember correctly, on one of your visits he told you that he thought he had it stored in his attic. I would give almost anything to view the footage.

I just read this thread for the first time, great history.
I know it's a long shot but any chance Mr. Jordan is still with us and selling calls?

With us, yes.
Still making calls, not sure. His number is on this site, probably in this thread, search for it and call him.

My son and I visited with him last year and bought a call. He had been having some medical problems, but stated he was doing much better and intended to begin making calls again. I really hope he was able to. He and his wife are extremely nice people. Give him a call.

I don't get on here much, but I have to echo the thanks of many in sharing all of this! My grandmother grew up in Glendora and reading that article and seeing names I recognized sure brought back some great childhood memories. Again thanks for sharing!

Great thread. Rebelduckaholic, I sent you a PM re: Frankie Tominello's duck stamps . . .

If any of you other longtime Greenwood/Scatters/Grasspatch guys have any pictures of Frankie Tominello hunting the Scatters, I really would appreciate a PM (he hunted a lot with Johnny Barrett). Mr. Frankie passed nearly two years ago at 95. He was a heck of a guy and a great duck hunter and crappie fisherman. Mr. Frankie's grandson is a longtime friend and hunting buddy of mine (we were in Greenwood a couple weekends ago cleaning out the remnants of Mr. Frankie's house before it went on the market). His grandson attended law school with me and we both moved back to Greenville to practice. If anyone has anything relating to Mr. Frankie (pictures, stamps, etc.), I sure would like to be able to pass it on to his grandson. In fact, when Drew (his grandson) got married a couple years ago, my blind bag had just been stolen along with 2 Son Jordan calls that Mr. Frankie had given me. Drew drove to Greenwood and got Mr. Son to give him a replacement for my stolen calls and gave it to me as a groomsmen's gift.

Again, great thread, and if anyone has anything like I mentioned, please give me a shout . . .

I'd have to defer that to Jack, Jimmy, or Mark.
