Hell its like that everywhere now. The police chief, mayor, and a few others were on the take here in town, I had to listen to the prosecutor say he was going to stick it to them multiple times. All of them got 5 years probabtion and records will be cleared at that time if they dont violate the probation. The freakin system sucks. You spend the time an effort to catch this ring of crooks and nothing. It makes me sick.

For the archive:

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Sidon, Mississippi man has pleaded guilty to federal wildlife violations.

Pass Taylor, Jr, 73, pleaded guilty Monday to five counts of a 30 count indictment handed down against him.

Taylor was accused of baiting dove fields, guiding hunt tours into wildlife refuges, exceeding game limits and not reporting game kills.

He opted for a hearing before a U. S. Magistrate.

Taylor will serve 18 months probation, pay a $5,000 fine, and make resitution to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks in the amount of $5,000.

He is also banned from hunting while on probation and cannot enter a wildlife refuge or preserve for five years.

The case was investigated by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Law Enforcement, the National Wildlife Refuge Division of Law Enforcement and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.

What are y'all complaining about? That the man didn't get enough penalization?

Not really complaining, just merely pointing out that this turned into much ado about nothing. A year and a half of undercover work grosses charges that carry 20+ yrs of prison and 1.2 mil in fines, but only nets 18 months probation, 10k in fines, and a 5 yr moratorium on nwr. They could've found enough on a one weekend hunt to accomplish that. Somebody got hosed in this deal, and it wasn't mr. taylor.

And the "undercover agents" prolly had the best hunts of their lives.

I realize we are kicking the dead horse an I'm not pointing fingers really don't care just a few thoughts.
If I am guided on to a refuge is it not my responibility to know where I am at or to know that I am being guided on state property and the regs against that? I wonder does 10k even cover the cost of the investigation?

The DA knows them all and is probably related to some extent and don't forget the jurors who also know them and are probably related. Based on that he probably thought the pleam was the easiest to win.

BTW we got 48 today at the brake.

SIDON HUNTER SENTENCED ON WILDLIFE VIOLATIONSFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEDecember 4, 2012
OXFORD, Miss. Felicia C. Adams, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi, Luis Santiago, Special Agent in Charge of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and Steve Adcock , Chief of Law Enforcement for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, announced that:
Pass Taylor, Jr., 78, of Sidon, Mississippi, plead guilty on December 3, 2012 before United States Magistrate Judge David A. Sanders, in Aberdeen, Mississippi. Taylor pled guilty to five counts of a 30-count Information, charging him with various wildlife violations including the illegal placement of bait on a commercial dove field, providing commercially guided duck hunts on Matthews Brake National Wildlife Refuge, and aiding and abetting other hunters in the taking of ducks in excess of the daily bag limit during a commercially guided duck hunt.
Following his guilty plea, Taylor was ordered to pay a fine in the amount of $5,000.00 and was further ordered to pay restitution to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks in the amount of $5,000.00.  In addition to the fine and restitution, Taylor was placed on probation for a period of 18 months.  The court further ordered as a condition of his probation that Taylor be banned from hunting in any manner or any location for a period of 18 months and that he be banned from entering any Federal Wildlife Refuge or Preserve for a period of five years.
United States Fish and Wildlife Service Special Agent in Charge Luis Santiago stated that: "We take our mission working with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks and the citizens of Mississippi in conserving, protecting, and enhancing fish, wildlife, plants and their habitats very seriously, investigating those who choose to violate state and federal laws.  They undermine the proud tradition of fair chase for all hunters."
This case was investigated by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Law Enforcement, the National Wildlife Refuge Division of Law Enforcement and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert J. Mims.

Aside from the conspiracy theories, govt waste, and the results....does any of it matter. I doubt it. It's just another case of violators running over the law and law abiding citizens as usual. An old guy who from what has been said has money and has been a violator for a long time. He will be right back to his old tricks if the option presents itself. Folks like him get the rush not from the successful hunt, but from the illegal aspects of their hunt.

Haha. You know you would have to take one of those guided refuge hunts at Matthews for those numbers.
