As I said before, no guides are available, but anyone may put in from public landings on McIntyre Lake or in the Scatters itself and with just a little luck, be as successful as we are year after year.

Note there was no mention in the article of posted signs, Malmaison WMA, restrictions on entry times and numbers of shells, etc. Why, one might just get the impression that the true history of the McIntyre Scatters is one of wide-open, free lance, PUBLIC WATERS, where "anyone" may put in from public boat landings" and enjoy a little duck hunting". What happened?

Just got off the phone with George Jeffords and he said he has read the articles and it was "Miracle of the Scatters" but i was written by old Dr.Sharpe from Greenwood in the late 50's early 60's(F&S/Outdoor life). There are other articles written by him and Peephole Hall and Bob Price about hunting and fishing at Money Hunting Club back in the day. One article was "Yalobusha Deer Drive" about Money Hunting Club. He told me that Joe Whicker had all the old articles and mags from that era and Joel Whicker may still have them. He also said W.F.Smith should have them.
I am going to run down some of the other leads he gave me.

Side note: Did you know Son Jordon still lives on Park Ave. in Gwood. I think i will stop by and pick me up a call if he still has a few.
Another call maker that i forgot about was Dominic Serio but i don't think any of his calls are still around.

I have a copy of that article in storage and several others that Dr. Bright (he was my great uncle) wrote in the old Outdoor Life and Field and Stream Magazines my dad collected. Also, several Nash Buckingham books where Nash would write letters on the pages to my dad and I.B. telling them that the story was about certain hunts they had been on. Really neat stuff that definitely needs to be shared but y'all are going to have to wait until this heat wave passes before you get me to go digging through a storage building.

Seriously, you might want to get the signed, personalized Buckingham books into a more temperature-controlled environment. Those are family waterfowling heirlooms!

The books are actually in my office, but the magazines are all in boxes.

Olt- I had a discussion last friday with Dr Sharpe's son (Guy Sharpe) and he said that his father did not right the article, he only wrote in medical journals and by the way he was a fisherman and not a duck hunter. So we are back to square one with the author. Maybe Dr. Bright may have written it or you may have the holy grail article that we are looking for. I will be happy to help you dig thru the attic (yes it definitly needs to cool off first).

*Bill, I have not forgotten about this, still want to get you some of the pictures and such. One more week of custom harvesting and another day cutting my own beans and will be done.

*Any mention among the older guys of killing ducks in "lick latter". My Dad tells me that there was a spell back in the late 60s or early 70s when it was really good for two or three years. Not sure if the ducks were just using the opening in the trees to get down and then swim in the green timber or were the ducks actually sitting in "lick latter" itself. It is not much of an opening there now. This would be on the north end of Hayward Jacks, private land adjacent to Malmaison. East Prong would deliver Tippo Creek water through there in high water events.

*Dad also mentioned a slough/swamp/opening that was south of "lick latter". I said "Moon Lake" and he said no, much smaller and more of a willow type hole than Tupelo/cypress brake like "Moon Lake". Does this small brake have a name? He said it was once good as well. Should be just east/northeast of "Moon Lake" maybe 1/4 to 1/2 mile off of Yalobusha River.

Think I have some knowledge of the "opening" Dad is talking about. A gobbler turkey or two has been known to roost there. Not willow there anymore if it is indeed the same hole of water. Would be near some very long ago planted tree fields. Trees may be 20+ years old.

I have located the 1940's (original) aerials but i have to go and actually pull and scan the images. I am planning a trip to acquire them within the next few months. Actually will plan a trip during duck season since i will have to travel thru some prime duck hunting areas through 2 states.
