i gave the wife a wishlist from vulcanbeveragei in b'ham (vulcanbeverage.com I think to see inventory). interested to see what comes back - i'll holla if it actually happens how i requested and trade up with ya.

struck out this week....there was a wreck on i-65 w/bumper to bumper traffic trying to get the h3ll outta dodge, so she couldn't get there in a timely manner, so maybe next week.

anybody know of any good beer stores not too far off of 82 in t'loosa? may be easier, none of the stores if found online were near where she was staying in b'ham.

there's a couple things and/or styles we haven't really discussed. one being food/beer pairing and the other is different ale styles from pales/ambers/ipa's and the like. i'm a hop-head, i freely admit that, but i also enjoy other styles of ales - specifically stouts and porters. they tend to be darker (maybe even black depending), w/ roasty and chocolate, maybe even coffee notes at the end. they can be very creamy with the presence of oatmeal to extremely dry (particularly the porters when talking of dry).

there are several types of foods that lend themselves to be enjoyed w/ a stout or porter..........one being dessert.

next chance you get for that pecan pie, bowl of ice cream, or warm brownie make sure you have either of these beer styles close by - you WILL NOT be disappointed.

that's just what i did tonight - cheesecake and a redhook black porter.......

first thing's gonna be said is "i don't like those black beers".........do yourself a favor and TRUST ME.

wife told me, after we had been in the pool and had a few beers, that she was going to suprise me and get a case of 90 minute shipped, but the shipping alone was $75, so she said it will have to wait until she gets up to memphrica for a meeting to get a case and bring back.... guess i'm special, but not that special... if it works out, i'll share a sixer w/ya!

The shipping on beer is ridiculous. Awhile back I put together a $150 order out of Colorado. The shipping added $300 to it........needless to say I canceled that sucker.

in the interest of being unwilling to let a great thread die, i just ordered my ingredients for my winter "warmer" - my version of a Russian Imperial Stout.

gonna brew it w/ chocolat malts, brown/roasted barley, some dark caramel malts and some other 'special' malts.....drop in english hops throughout boil and either dark brown sugar or black strap molasses during the last 15 minutes of boil..........

vanilla bean when i transfer it to the secondary fermenter........

let it age until the holidays..................

at better than 10% alcohol, i think you get the winter "warmer" idea

I had my first (and several more) Yuengling while is was in DC recently, and it was tasty. I'm not sure if you can get it anywhere around here? There are also a few good micro brews in DC.

my wife got on dogfish's website and found Buster's that carries it http://www.bustersliquors.com/ (at the corner of poplar and highland out towards east memphis - easy to find, huge building that takes up the corner with lots of windows if i remember correctly).
here is dogfish's retailer finder - shows you everywhere that sells it and a map to get there! http://www.dogfish.com/community/fish-f ... country=us

We went to the Saucer downtown a few weeks back and I tried a Ghost River Pale for the first time and it was mighty fine! The g/f had her share of RedHook pale that evening also.

Anybody had a Reb Ale yet. Saw some in grocery store this evening and was curious.
