I pulled the case up on the PACER system and the last document filed is an agreement to proceed before a US Judge on a misdemeanor charge, waving the right to trial, and waving the right to attorney. This was filed on 12/3/12 and the case number is 1:12-mj-00027-DAS. The attorney for the US is Robert Mims and he has signed off on the right to waive trial and proceed on the misdemeanor charge.

So the long and short of it is that it ain't over unless the trial by judge has already been held and it just hasn't made it to the docket yet.

As I understand, he agreed to plead guilty to one or two charges and pay a fine. I am not sure about his hunting privileges.

And they didn't take his land??????? Oh no! What'll we make a conspiracy theory out of next?
It's funny that you gravitate to the "conspiracy theory" aspect of this thread instead of addressing the "govt waste" tone that most of us had...even when JaMak's post specifically said "All that for....". Guess it's easier to mock a few than to admit that many had a valid opinion.

I have found in life that there are way more armchair quarterbacks than there are real quarterbacks.

Maybe this reflects on how crappy our judicial system is. Seems to me that the LEO did their job, what they get paid to do. Another case of, the punishment not fitting the crime...

10K is chump change.......he made almost double that just on the boat ramp lease in one year.
The 18 month no hunting probation hurt him more than anything as he loves to kill ducks! At 78 with his heart conditions, I'm sure he treats each hunt like it could be his last.

I agree. Never claimed that the LEO didn't do their job. All I said from the get go is that the system is broken. Good points were made as to why the case had to be built for 2 years with multiple agents and why those agents even had to participate in illegal activity in order to build such a case. Now that the case is closed and the defendant got a slap on the wrist considering the extent of the crimes/investigation/charges, it appears that mocking the land grab theorist takes top priority. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why that's the priority, either.

Do I expect the LEOs to jump on the system is broken wagon? No, and esp not on an internet forum. But, I also wouldn't expect them to approach this with the "see, I told you I was right" attitude.
