Re: Frustrating
Holy crap.......those things are freakishly HUGE!
On another note, hold your heads up dog fans, it was a good run & quite the accomplishment to get to Omaha, much less take second place!

Yes it was frustrating watching that. We played long ball and got our butts handed to us. We would have been better of trying to bunt every player or at least every other like UCLA did. I think this series has changed the way baseball will be played in this park by future teams.

Re: Frustrating
Both parks are identical in size. The difference is they faced ameritrade park a different direction where the wind predominantly blows in and the wall is taller than the old park. Other than that, no difference. It's the BATS that changed it all.mshunter77 wrote:They have gone too far with the new bats and this huge field. Rea hit that ball as good as you can and it is just a long out. That is ridiculous.

I thought the same until looking up the info. Everything I find confirms barry's comment.peewee wrote:Y'all keep me in your prayers tomorrow, I'm gonna have to smell Quins farts all the way home. Haha
Before remodeling and reconfiguration for the 2002 season, the foul lines were 343 (later 335) and the power alleys were 370 (later 375). Centerfield was 420 (later 408).

Re: Frustrating
Guess it just plays a lot bigger with wind coming in instead of out and with the new bats.

Wind + New Bats = Fearless Pitchers & Small Ball
I wanted to vomit when they were praising the guys that built this new park last night. They ruined the college world series. What we saw is not true baseball. There is no fear of the homerun. By taking that penalty away from the pitchers, you necessarily flip the whole game. UCLA figured this out and are to be congratulated. However, if this park played like virtually any other park short of the Polo Grounds, UCLA is two and through in this World Series. It is just not right and even the commentators pointed that out last night...two of which are former pitchers!

Re: Frustrating
I wonder if all the complaining will bring about any change? I suspect no. IMO there is more than just the dimensions of the park that are at play, it's also the ball just doesn't carry in TD Ameritrade. While I can understand not wanting to have gorilla ball anymore, when a player hits one on the absolute screws and it's a lazy fly ball to the warning track there is a problem. Honestly there weren't even that many gap hits either, the ball just hangs up in the new park. Grounders are about the only thing that win there.
I pray the NCAA will do something about it, but I am not going to hold my breath. I think the pre 2010 bats would be a big help.

Re: Frustrating
I want to know what the blueprint guys were thinking when they setup the field with a south wind blowing in all the time.
Re: Frustrating
Those guys were probably Architects instead of Engineers. That's all I can think of anyway.Greenhead22 wrote:I want to know what the blueprint guys were thinking when they setup the field with a south wind blowing in all the time.
