subfloor

Postby cbakerf81 » Wed Jun 12, 2013 7:53 pm

remodeling old house wondering which would be a better option. Should I use OSB or plywood? standard sheets or tongue and groove? It has to be 3/4in to match up with the other subfloor which is tongue and groove hardwood?

All depends on the area and what will go over it.
I wouldn't put OSB in a floor no matter what though. My house is 113 years old, so any replaced boards will and have been tongue and groove like what came out.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

3/4 Plywood no OSB. Tounge and grove is a personal choice. If you screw it down it won't matter if it has a tongue or not just make sure
you center your board up on your joist good for the next piece. Sister up joists if you need to have extra room for nailing/screwing.
Nothing worse than a squishy, squeeking floor because your laps weren't right. 2x4 sistered up doens't cost that much.

Either ply or OSB, I like T&G, then screw and glue, or ring shank and glue. What kind of floor will you be covering the decking with?

Under doorways? You just take the doors off and have them trimmed.........or you get 1/2 inch flooring instead of 3/4.

Regular square edge 3/4" cd ply wood. Glue and screw it. T&G ply has a tendency to squeak bad at the joints.

What big timber said. At least that's how we did it when I was building houses.
