Dove Fields?
Re: Dove Fields?
Have you tried the Triumph FTB hybrids? They are smaller seed not used for their production sunflower seed sales. You can get them at good prices compared to a lot of other hybrids.

Re: Dove Fields?
I was using a mycogen previously. Only thing I could find this year was clearfield and I didnt want that. The seed this year I have is tiny compared to last year. I dropped it in my planter set from last year and it was dropping nearly 7 SPF at the 2 SPF setting from last year.

Re: Dove Fields?
We had the same problem with the FTB seed. Think it is seed that passed thru the screens when they were sizing them, but still had good germ and the plants performed very well in comparison to the same hybrid in larger seeds. Think they were selling the seed at about 1/3 of the cost of the normal sized seed. We were able to squeeze the seeding rate down some with an 8 cell plate and the transmission on the slowest speed.

I changed to a different sprocket and got it down to 4.

Re: Dove Fields?
What is the draw back to the clearfield? Had a guy that was going to plant for us and he mentioned using the clearfield. I don't know anything about them but you saying you didn't want them makes me question using them.Wingman wrote:I was using a mycogen previously. Re: Dove Fields?
Very expensive seed that allows you to use a particular herbicide over the top of emerged sunflowers. I read the label and the herbicide doesn't control several of my problem weeds. So I opted for the cheaper non-cf type and use pre-emerge herbicides that work better at controlling the weeds in my situation.
