It appears the dawgs were overrated. It may be a long season.

Dawgs will be fine
Re: LSU v State Weekend Series Prediction Thread
That was an awful loss on Friday night. MSU was in control of the game and just let it slip away. Umpire behind the plate certainly got an earful from Cohen who will probably get fined this week for arguing balls and strikes. Cohen should have made his argument known much earlier than waiting till Katz had already been grooved a pitch and hit the HR. Not one to usually cry foul about an umpire but this guy was a work of art. Bases loaded K of Renfroe was a hanging curve ball that never broke.....above the letters!!!
MSU will be fine. Glad they got the one win because a sweep at home would have been tough to swallow and come back from with any confidence at all.

Re: LSU v State Weekend Series Prediction Thread
Great baseball weekend between two teams that could end up in Nebraska when it is all said and done. I think the better team won the series at this juncture (I was pleasantly surprised and am admittedly biased). However, I think State will progress more throughout the year and will be the better team at year's end.
I heard that State's starting pitcher threw at Katz yesterday. If that is true, then that is certainly disappointing. I guess that is baseball.

Great series. Dogs should have won the Friday night game.....they will be fine
Re: LSU v State Weekend Series Prediction Thread
I am biased as well. I did not think the better team won the series. I have watched a lot of LSU vs MSU games and a lot of those games it was obvious that LSU was a better team. They always seemed to have 3 or 4 studs that just gave them the edge. I did not see that this weekend. In fact I thought the opposite. Friday night we just let LSU hang around and hang around till Katz launched a game winner. Nola had given up 9 hits and we had several more very well hit balls right at people. Take away a pitch or two and MSU wins the game, but that is baseball.Deltamud77 wrote:Great baseball weekend between two teams that could end up in Nebraska when it is all said and done. Do not think Graveman intentionally threw at Katz yesterday....but after Katz stood, posed, and watched the HR on Friday then he should of knew one was coming.....and that is baseball.

Re: LSU v State Weekend Series Prediction Thread
We shouldnt have let Katz beat us in his last at bat Friday night. I certainly would have told my pitchers on saturday to get him off the plate at the start of every at bat. I'm not one for throwing at people's head (which is what I heard occured), but I'm all for getting them off the plate, especially after they single handedly beat you...thats just part of the game.Deltamud77 wrote:Great baseball weekend between two teams that could end up in Nebraska when it is all said and done. Even though State lost the series, I still believe we have a team that could get us to Omaha. Unlike football, talent doesn't always translate into wins. Ole Miss has had some very good teams over the past several years not make it to the big dance, but that doesn't mean they werent talented enough to be there. Its a long season, we just have to play solid baseball and hopefully be firing on all cylinders come May.

Two of Katz's HR were the result of pitchers throwing curveballs after being told NOT to do so. Both Lindgren and Cox got chewed out.

Strong words right there. I have no problem trying to back a guy off the plate but you should not throw at his head, keep the ball down.
Re: LSU v State Weekend Series Prediction Thread
IMO, he did not throw at him. Katz never had to move. The ball was over the umpires head. No one would have even thought Graveman had thrown at someone had Katz not been batting and LSU coach runs out of dugout. Surely if he was going to throw at Katz he would have at least put him in the dirt or backed him off the plate. Looked just like a ball that came out of his hand early.mshunter77 wrote:Strong words right there. Its just baseball's version of rubbing. Rubbing is racing. Brushbacks are baseball.

You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.
Re: LSU v State Weekend Series Prediction Thread
.....I have to believe that State threw at Katz. Since the beginning of time, players have thrown at other players for various reasons. If a player is digging in his heels, you need to do something to back him off. I find it funny that the LSU players act as if it's not a part of the game. I will bet my house they do they same thing, they may just desguise it better.......
Funny story about bean balls......two guys I played with at State were playing against each other in the minor leagues after they graduated. One of the guys had player on his team that hit 2-3 home runs one night....mouthed off, etc. My buddies were sitting at the bar that night and were talking about how they were pretty certain the guy that hit the homeruns was gonna get a ball thrown at his ear the next night.....and the result was probably going to be a fight......so, they agreed that if / when it happened, they would meet each other at second base and "roll around the dirt" a little. Sure enough, guy comes up and he catches one right in the ear......dugouts empty.....my buddies meet at second base and roll around in the dirt "fighting" while everyone else is in the middle of the big fight.......they also met at the bar again that night and laughed about it....
It's a part of baseball, deal with it.
