DUCK COUNT IN AMERICA

Postby GulfCoast » Sat Dec 29, 2001 7:37 am

I have seen literally thousands of ducks in the upper delta in the last week, and more snow geese than I can even estimate. The problems (for us, not the ducks) is that there are hundreds of thousands of acres of water available for them now that were not there 4 weeks ago, and they are spread thin, and only want to feed out in the middle of fields in shallow water, where they are hard to hunt. I had about 500 ducks feeding 150 yards from my decoys a couple of days ago. No way to get any closer though, and they were even spooked to mummy blinds. It will make you mad as heck when it happens, but you just have to find a way to hunt them where they want to be. And it is still fun to sit there and watch that many ducks cutting up, and listen to what they sound like. Face it folks, the delta is in the midst of a 20 year flood, and that makes it a little tougher to hunt the ducks, and MUCH easier for the yahoos to poach your land. I have seen people poaching like it was going out of style the last 6 days. There are still a TON of ducks out there, though.
