Fellas, I have a stuck casing in a sizing die. Usually I can just tap out with a wrench, but this IS stuck. 3 lbs hammer won't even budge it. Options besides screwing up die and gettin a new one?
Thx

Re: OT-reloading problem- stuck casing
There are several stuck case removal tools. You have to drill the primer pocket, tap it and then there is a cap that you run a 1/4" bolt through to tighten down and pull the case out.
I use mine all the time loading 223 military cases. They are terrible about getting stuck.

Re: OT-reloading problem- stuck casing
I don't know jack about reloading, dies, etc... So this may not be an option, but can you heat up the die then try to hammer the case out?

Re: OT-reloading problem- stuck casing
I wouldnt think you would want to heat them or hit them. If you even get a small knick its shot.
Re: OT-reloading problem- stuck casing
Another option is send it back to the die manufacturer. For a nominal fee they will get it out and check your die for damage as well.

Lower the rAm. Slide the case holder 3/4 off the ram. Raise the ram and push the shell holder back into position and it should simultaneously slide over the case rim. Lowe the ram and pull it out.
This usually works for me but I guess yours may be a bit more stuck

Yes, black, it actually rounded off the rim of the case when pulling down on the arm.
Re: OT-reloading problem- stuck casing
on a lee die, I had one that was terrible stuck. I loosened the sizing die and put in a vise and hit the expander with a hammer. It came out with a HAMMER not a little tack hammer. Once it is out you have the problem of the expander being stuck in the case. I used a dremel and cut the case off. Lee is awesome though. I bent an expander one one doing something else and they sent me a brand new one in about three days.
There will be a day....
Re: OT-reloading problem- stuck casing
I have done both. Sent one back to RCBS, then after I did it again, I purchased the removal tool. It is good to have for the future. Save in the long run if you do it more than once after freight costs, time down, etc.

Removal tool and bullet puller die- two things that really come in handy when you are in a jam.

Re: OT-reloading problem- stuck casing
Put die in vise. Drill and tap primer pocket and thread bolt into primer pocket. Use some oversize washers or nuts to screw against pulling the case up thru the "spacers" till it comes free. TAKE YOUR TIME!!! it can be an aggrevating process! (1/2 in PVC joint works pretty good as a spacer and plastic wont mess up the die)
Re: OT-reloading problem- stuck casing
drill the primer pocket out and use a bolt extractor or screw.
Please tell me your using lube. One should now to never try and penetrate a dry hole.
