beaver hide
I think I remember seeing a magazine advertisement in Ducks Unlimited. A woman sitting in a rustic cabin bundled up in a beaver blanket.
Isn't that an advertisement for a company that makes products from beaver hides that the customer provides?
Even if that is not what that company was advertising for, does anyone know of someone local who can turn beaver pelt into a sheared beaver blanket?
The reason I'm asking is because I have been on a beaver removal campaign from my hunting club. Since duck season has ended I have killed 24, the biggest one happened last Saturday night. I shot and killed it on a levee, it probably weighed over 60 pounds.
This animal was dry since we killed it on dry ground, I picked it up to pose for a picture, and could not believe how soft the fur felt on this animal.
So anyway I got to thinking about it, and surely there is someone nearby who I can send some beaver hides to that will turn them into a blanket for the cabin?
And lastly, is there anything unlawful about using the hides from nuisance animals at any time of the year?
I am NOT interested in selling the blanket or any part of the beaver, I just thought it would be fun to actually do something with these things.
Does anyone have a referral?

I dont know about local but Foxx Furs or Moyle Mink Tannery will make you one out of your fur for about 1000.
If it's a hen we know who killed it.
Re: beaver hide
Fur sale was just held at Kociusko this past weekend. Probably would have been some good info there on what you are wanting.

Castor gland/sack bring fair $$$ I think, but hide is not worth the trouble to skin.
Wildfowler, if you think that dry beaver fur felt nice, you should run your hand down the back of an otter or a mink. The otter by far has the best feel of any fur IMO.

Petting a bald eagle trumps both...

I have to say based on the title of this thread, I was thoroughly disappointed when I opened it.

Re: beaver hide
Trust me, I have a whole string of text messages back and forth between my hunting buddy on our way home that went way south. Things Like touching my first beaver was amazing, my fingers smell a little musty, etc., etc.
Seriously, I went in a ladies closet after this to sample some fur coats for softness. Her "sheared" beaver coat was far and a way the softest fur in her closet. There was no comparison, everything else felt coarse compared to the beaver.
