Re: 4 Bama players arrested...
I knew some folks were going to try to equate this situation with something along the lines of: "everybody has these problems", or "its just boys being boys", or trying to compare it to alcohol related offenses or fighting over a girl, etc.
Sorry, but as I said earlier, the players who stalked, attacked, and robbed other UA students is a different type of crime altogether from what we have seen prior hereto at any school. I just don't recall anything like this ever occuring. This stuff is straight from the ghetto.
And when you combine the FACT that the two players responsible for the direct assault and batteries ADMITTED their actions as reported in the very first news accounts of the matter, the typical delay we usually see along the lines of "we are gathering all the facts and will review the matter" seems pretty laughable. IF the players involved had denied their involvement in the crimes, then I could certainly understand the wait and see approach in order to let the criminal process and university administrative due process run its course. Again, what exactly is there to review about this situation involving the two who admitted to beating other UA students unconscious to steal from them (and stealing is the less sinister motive --- the lack of value of the items stolen, color of the victims, and indiscriminate way it occurred suggests something worse)? What more would you need to know? Isn't what they admitted to grounds for immediate, permanent explusion absent anything else?
And furthermore, my criticism is with UA, NOT with Nick Saban. All Saban can do is affect their status on the team. He suspended all of the players indefinately as soon as the first reports of the crime came out, no doubt deferring to the university to handle the matter. And I am certain that the two involved in the beatings will be kicked off the team permanently as soon as the university takes action. Now, UA is another matter. They do have the power to kick these guys off campus. And here, for whatever reasons, it took them 3 days to do so, and to my knowledge, they still haven't permanently expelled them. This looks like political correctness run amuck to me. Had this been two white players attacking black students on the UA campus, those white players would have been expelled immediately, most likely even without the admissions of guilt. They would have been gone faster than the McNeely-Tyson fight lasted.
I am sorry this has happened on the campus of UA. But it did. Could it happen elsewhere? No doubt. But, like I said, this is something new altogether (at least to me it is), and I am not aware of anything like this occurring before on any SEC school campus. I hope it is not an omen of things to come.
If this is indeed a new campus trend within the SEC, and has happened before, please enlighten me and the rest of us. If you don't think this is disturbing, then fine. That is your prerogative. If that happened on the UM campus, I would have been demanding action taken immediately by the UM administration and would have been just as critical if it had not.

And I'm sure the UM administration would have listened to you about like we do here.

Re: 4 Bama players arrested...
Skywalker, I doubt that I would have been the only one voicing complaints had this happened on the UM campus and the same sequence of events happened. But, I do know a person or two in the Lyceum who would indeed take my call and listen.
And BTW, the Hornsby matter did not occur on the UM campus, or even in Oxford. And to my knowledge, there was no initial admission of guilt by Hornsby. And the factual characterization of the Hornsby matter as set forth in the previous post is simply not very accurate. But, he was indeed in a fight (or scuffle, or tussle, or whatever), and at the time he was indeed on probation from a prior offense. So, there was a short delay before he was cut loose by Nutt as a recruit. He was never a student on the UM campus, and he did not commit a crime on the UM campus, so there was no jurisdiction for any action by UM other than for the head football coach to cut him loose as a recruit. I fail to see the correlation here.
Some of you are really stretching things.

If they kick them out of school too soon, Jesse and Al will be holding a press conference in the Quad.

Re: 4 Bama players arrested...
Yeah ole miss is first class, took in Masioli after felony burglary charges, took in Mosley after being accused of raping two women, Hornsby was kicked out of Florida for burglary then went to ole miss and attacked someone with brass knuckles before he even made it there, yep no ghetto guys at ole miss.

if he woulda been found guilty i doubt very seriously he would even have the option of football as he would be in the pen.
and,
he never went to ole miss??? he was cut loose before he ever stepped foot on campus. as addressed in a previous post..
and please show me where someone said ole miss was "first class" when it comes to athletes... anytime your running a program full of cheeseburgers i don't give a damn who the school is. your gonna have issues.
exactly, all bout being "politically correct"webbmaster wrote:If they kick them out of school too soon, Jesse and Al will be holding a press conference in the Quad.

This is the poing I am trying to make, this crap happens everywhere so I am not sure why a few think that it is only at Alabama, but I guess if you can't hang with them on the field you will try and find other ways to rag on them.ScottyLee wrote:mshunter77 wrote: and please show me where someone said ole miss was "first class" when it comes to athletes... anytime your running a program full of cheeseburgers i don't give a damn who the school is. your gonna have issues.

Re: 4 Bama players arrested...
Thank you for this pretigious award, it means a lot coming from you. Yes what the Bama guys did is horrible and they will be dealt with. I just don't understand why people want to make fun of a school having players get in trouble when it will happen at your school sooner or later. Yes what they did was worse than 20 players stealing pillows and radios from a hotel. Yes I think it is worse than the LSU bar fight since this appears to be a something they planned on doing ahead of time. At the same time the punishments dealt out will be much worse also. Ole Miss and every other school have had and still have their share of thugs. Bama is on top right now so every little thing will be magnified and haters are going to hate. Same as with everyone thinking something is up with the Ole Miss recruiting class. They had a great class and everyone is going to question why and try and analyze every little thing that happened with the recruits in that class. Call me an Aunt Sally if you want to but I was just trying to put in perspective that every school has their issues major and minor. Ole Miss has not run a squeaky clean program and has brought in several recruits that had legal problems in the past. Yes Hornsby was not on the team but he was recruited and signed by Ole Miss so at that point in my opinion was a representative of the team and school.Po Monkey Lounger wrote:Mshunter is hereby awarded the straw man debater award for the month of February. Re: 4 Bama players arrested...
Webbie, I'll see if I can find you a pass. I'll bet that Big Gumbo really misses you and would love to catch up.
I have a personal interest in this matter, as one of those other students at UA is my own nephew. And I could have other relatives attend UA as students in the future. And then again, if the Tide football players (or other AA students) are going to be playing "hunger games" against the white students on campus, then maybe not.
Yes, football players, like other students, from time to time are going to get in trouble with alcohol and other petty crimes --- including fighting over women while drunk, etc. And some are going to take it way too far. Yet, what exactly was the "motive" in the subject case under discussion? Were they really THAT hungry, or that strapped for cash? Or were they just having fun attacking white students? That is what it looks like. Either way, its disturbing and I hope that its not a trend.

Now, from what source did you conjure that up? My opening post, I'm pretty certain, set forth the fact/observation that all schools have players that get in trouble from time to time. My point here was that these crimes were different from what we have seen in the past from the typical football player getting into trouble scenarios. (In fact, one of the victims stated that the perps acted as if they were just having fun ---that is pretty sick and twisted). And that because it was different, the UA should have acted much quicker in taking action ---- eg immediately banning them from campus and expelling them. IMO, during the delay of 3 days that it took for the UA to ban them from campus, while they were out on bail, they could have struck again (a previous arrest on a firearms charge the day before did not stop one of the perps). Its a safety issue. This ain't really about football. This type of political correctness that likely caused the delay in action could put other students in danger.I just don't understand why people want to make fun of a school having players get in trouble when it will happen at your school sooner or later.

Re: 4 Bama players arrested...
What's the big deal - some black dudes beat up a white guy or two - those innocent black kids were probably just playing the "knockout game" - where black guys hunt down a "white boy" to "knock out" - just like Pitt players that beat a white guys booty in October and never got in any trouble for it, but it's cool, they were just playing a game - nothing to see here - no hate crime, just games.
There's not much difference in what the Bama players did and what these white guys did in this article, except I doubt these white dudes had the size and strength of an SEC player.....and they were looking at 20 years.

Every thing should now be right with the universe...
Saban: 4 arrested Bama players dismissed from team
Associated Press | February 27, 2013
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Four Alabama players have been dismissed from the team following their arrests after two robberies on campus.
Alabama coach Nick Saban said Wednesday that linebackers D.J. Pettway and Tyler Hayes, safety Eddie Williams and H-back Brent Calloway "are no longer associated with the football program."
Saban says the players' "actions do not reflect the spirit and character we want our organization to reflect."
Pettway, Williams and Hayes are charged with two counts of second-degree robbery. Williams and Calloway are charged with fraudulent use of a credit card.
Williams confessed to robbing a student who was punched in the head and face and kicked in the ribs and back. He said Pettway and Hayes watched him commit another robbery from a nearby vehicle about an hour later.
I am interested in purchasing duck calls that were made by Mike McLemore. I am a family member and they have a sentimental value.

Wow! Just over 2 weeks. Who would have thunk it.
Saban on the 4 dismissed players: "Some people learn by words, some people learn by consequences and some people can't learn at all."
