I marvel at the ease this guy casts a fly rod. Incase you are wondering, that's him casting the entire fly line like it's nothing. He's a bonefish guide in Andros. I made this gif from the YouTube video just so I can see the simple mechanics of what he is doing. I strive to cast half as well as this guy:

Re: How to fly cast
That's pretty damn nice if he is casting the whole line, I could only dream of doing it that well.
Problem is where I usually fish, I am doing good to have enough room for half the line, roll casts are better served for small creeks and rivers around here.
Of course, when I go chase bonefish one day, I'll have to lookup this video.

Re: How to fly cast
There have been a couple of features on him on Pirates of the Flats. He can cast 70 feet of fly line...WITHOUT A ROD...just using his arms and hands. They showed him do it.
He can also supposedly cast through the open door of a house and out the back door his loop is so tight.
He is probably the best fly caster in the world.

Re: How to fly cast
Great example of a side arm "double haul" and extreme "line shooting". Need good balance of a fast rod and a slick line...No rod, 70' Sounds like he don't need a 10wt. Xi3 Sage $750 some "Liguid Crystal" or a Rio hard surface line $80; just a broom handle. The 2 most important things in fly casting...getting line speed and slack management to shoot...Extremly tight loops come with the better rods for most people...My rods are under $200...Later DL

slick...i have learned that 100' cast are very few in actual fishing...but 40' into a 20mph wind is quite normal...learn to cast tight loops first...then learn the double haul...watch any videos of lefty kreh...he beez the man!
