As a maroon man at heart I will say great job Ole Miss and coach Freeze. I really wish things would change for the better at State. To be honest the best thing that could happen to us was a crappy year toward the end. Maybe now we can get out heads outta the clouds and play ball. If this year is like last I think we need to recruit a new coach.

Also as a Mississippi man, I know State will get rocked against Bama but to Webb master and the rest of the rawl tide sister lovers, I really hope Ole Miss takes Saban to the wood shed. I often see where the state of Mississippi, per capita, has the highest percentage of players in the NFL.......it often flip flops between Mississippi and Louisiana. I often think about what it would be like if the state of Mississippi ony had one SEC school.......that school would be a power like LSU year after year after year. On any given Saturday, there are 130,000 to 170,000 people watching a D1 football game in Mississippi...........build a stadium that seats 120.000......single school (think if you combined the classes State and ole Miss signed)..........would be hard to compete with.

The idea of combining the Mississippi universities into one single school with a campus primarily located in the state capitol of Jackson MS was actually proposed many years ago by MS Gov. Bilbo. I think that it was proposed as both a cost saving measure and a way to unify the state of MS around one flagship university. Of course, due to politics and allegiances of "fans" to their respective schools/sports teams, the idea was shot down and never approved by the legislature.

Such an idea/legislation today would never have a chance at passage. There are too many people at this point mired in their traditions to ever consider something that radical, and yet practical.

Yes, there is no doubt that if Mississipi had one major university (imagine Ole Miss, MSU, and USM combined), that this school would be a perrenial powerhouse in sports and would enjoy a level of fan support likely exceeding all other schools in the country. But, getting past all the issues that such a consolidation would present seems like an insurmountable obstacle at this time.

Personally, I would be willing to give up my Ole Miss Rebels for the reality of such a consolidated school and the good chance that such a move would produce championsip caliber sports teams in our state on a consistent basis. It would save the state of MS a lot of money in duplicate administration of academics, unite our state's citizens behind one team, and as indicated above, likely produce much higher quality sports teams for our enjoyment. But, I doubt I would get many followers. There are too many who can't give up their "hotty toddy" or their cowbell or their etc. etc. etc.

i read about gov dildo's ideas on creating one central university... was almost 100 years ago that he proposed that.. and it was met with the utmost disdain. even back then... i think gov dildo was once speaking with some ole miss folks on a train about this idea.. gov dildo became concerned for his health as he was scared the ole miss fans were going to throw him from the train for expressing his views on the matter...

aint going to happen at all now... to much invested in both universities...

This is the difference. Alabama can support two schools especially when they can recruit out of state when the in state talent is down.
