The boy's numbers are about right, but it was a good season in a lot of respects. I got to hunt with my sons a lot more than usual but suspect their mom told them to watch me more closely. Means a lot to me to have them share a day with the ducks. Did spend some quality time alone in a pit with an old dog that probably hunted his last season and Ace picked up his 8000th duck/goose for me. Was a decoying Greenhead that I made a one shot kill on while letting the hen with him walk and was fortunate to have a great photographer with me, by chance, to capture the moment. Only wish Patrick and/or Stephen had been there to share that hunt. wouldn't have mattered to me it they had shot it either. Hunted all 60 days and watched 659 ducks and 149 geese hit the water with my two dogs picking up 551 of them. Didn't hunt in a group of over 4 which made for more of a stress free season also. Second year ever I didn't kill a banded Greenhead and first year ever I failed to kill a banded bird. Fought a lot of iced up fields, snow, sleet and then torrential rains that made things tough in our area. But enjoyed each dawn and quite a few sunrises and sunsets. The numbers game means less and less to me now as I appreciate the times with family, friends and good dogs more than ever.
