Hwy 12 Area Report
After Santa visited my son for the 3rd time in 3 days (parents' house, my house, in'laws), I took a drive along Hwy 12 from Hollandale to Belzoni over to Hwy 49 just north of Eden. Lots of water, a lot less ducks. I talked to a farmer last night who got a letter from the COE in Vicksburg over the weekend, and JUST in the Sunflower & Yazoo river basins, there is over 800,000 acres under water. Earlier this morning I saw more bird activity than the late afternoon run. I saw a few thousand comorants, 4 BIG groups of snows/geese, 2 BIG groups of big ducks on the water (one I got up), and many more smaller pockets of big ducks. I saw a few thousand high flyers of all types. Is this a good sign? With the massive front coming through, surely this is going to push lots of ducks our way. But with all the water, it sounds like it's going to definately call for more "hunting". From the same sources of farmers in that part of the delta, they said this water is going to hold for a while due to the vast amount and that there is an expected 10 foot river surge coming from upstream. I hope all of this isn't completely true. Any other reports?

Hey Bushman we may have passed one another on Hwy 12 I drove around over there yesterday and then dove hunted in Isola.
There was one field this side of Hollandale that had probably two thousand big ducks circling/landing/getting up. There is no telling how many were actually there. Snows were even mixing in and going down. Awesome sight!
Bring it on ole man winter!

We've been seeing good numbers of mallard, pintail, widgeon, gadwall and teal since Sunday morning, but they are hard to hunt. There are definitely alot of birds here, but they are scattered with all of the water. Sunflower river is draining very, very slowly, and has many thousand acres backed up until the river starts dropping. Thing about it is, all of the water from Sardis, Enid, Arkabutla and Grenada, and all of that water north of here...has to come right down the Yazoo and Sunflower.
