Enhanced Carry Question

Postby JimAire » Mon Jan 14, 2013 8:00 pm

What is the advantage of taking the class? I have read 45-9-101 but could not find the information I was looking for.
Second question: Can you take the class if you don't already have the CCW permit?
Thanks guys.

Safefire shooting is great, take your wife to the class with you. Lots of good info for everyone even if they dont plan to conceal carry.

The legislature put the section about the enhanced carry in the wrong statute because it was a last second floor amendment. It is actually in the security guard permit section (97-37-7).

However, if you look at subsection (13) of 45-9-101, you will see essentially all of the places enhanced carry allows you to carry that are otherwise prohibited.

It really is a good law. I actually wish, though, that the legislature would revisit the situation and make the class required for concealed carry but give everyone that satisfactorily completes the class able to carry in enhanced fashion.

Just the regular...not the enhanced. There is actually no correct answer on this subject that I am aware of, but since most surrounding states have laws that are not a loose as ours, it is safe to assume that you are legal only to the limitations of the regular carry since it mimics our surrounding state's laws more closely.

When you are in another state with a reciprocal agreement you must abide by their concealed carry laws.

All the reciprocal agreement does is gives you the same privileges as the state held permit where you travel. Usacarry's website is a good start when traveling, but always follow it up by looking up the states laws to verify before you travel there.
