Tagging Your Birds

Most if not all waterfowl show's on tv are party hunting.

Not to high-jack ('cause most of the comments about the original subject would have already been offered by now), but I saw a show the other day where the 'Hardcore' guys had a segment with the 'Owner' (Wooooooo, Wooooooo ) that supplied all the decoys for their hunt had a 10 minute discussion about all the products they 'plan' to make and market in the future. Gimme a break. The woods is fulla people peddling their intentions.

If you want to get a good laugh, tell God what your plans are, buddy.

That was another channel switch. The show was more about their 'planned' success and rock music than it was about their own ability to kill birds or show ways to help the viewers become more successful in the field.

It was like a pitch to solicit future hunters to 'align' themselves with the mentality of a company that doesn't have any products to sell, yet.

Just put all required info on strap and keep your ducks on your strap until get home to clean them.

If the wildlife officer needs an individualized tag on the duck to tell what species it is, then perhaps the officer should find another profession.

Will this guarantee that you won't get a ticket from a federal warden for some type of tagging violation? Unfortunately, probably not. But, it will suffice for most all state wardens and most federal wardens.

There are so many rules on this, that I have opined here before that I don't think a group of federal wardens could go out and party hunt, kill several ducks, and do it "by the book". My offer made last year still stands ---- that is for such a group of federal wardens to go out and hunt, film the hunt, shoot several ducks, and travel to their ultimate home destination, without committing any federal rules violations ------ and if they can do so without committing any violation of the federal rules, then I will pay $500 to their favorite charity. The filmed hunt, from start to finish, has to first be sent to me for review and inspection for any violations. And if they succeed, then we will have an instructional video that could be useful to all waterfowl hunters, and a good charity will get some $$$ -- a win-win. And if they fail? Then they will have proven my longstanding point that we have too many rules and regulations regarding waterfowl hunting which are confusing at best, and a self fulfilling prophesy of a technical violation at worst --- a sad state of affairs for good folks who are trying their best to follow the basic rules and just want to enjoy waterfowl hunting. Never underestimate just how bad a group of "well-intentioned" government rule makers can FUBAR pretty much anything.

Been checked by and hunted with state wardens and no problems ....Feds have a different oppinion

The laws are written in such a manner that they the burden of proof is on the hunter. A federal warden can pretty much get you if he so chooses. If you duck hunted 100% by the federal laws you would a) not have any fun and constantly be worried if you put the round tag on the square hole and b) never be able to cook up enough ducks for more than a small tailgate.

in the future, you should:

ask immediately who shot what bird, return said bird or birds to identifying hunter who at that moment must pull out a tag that has his/her name
address and drivers license number and must right down the species and attach it to the bird before leaving hunting area.

if after returning to your camp, you give birds away, the tags must remain on said birds and said birds are not to be cleaned until they arrive at
the destination where they will be consumed. Said hunter is not allowed more thean 24 breast (12 ducks) on his/her person or at domain at any time.


MY OPPINION IS THAT THIS IS STUPID

State may not write you, but the Feds wrote up a buddy of mine for that exact thing!

Im confused....what exactly was your friend cited for. I have never put a tag on a duck I have killed hunting alone or with others. It goes on my strap or in my bucket...guess Im an outlaw. Where does one aquire duck tags
