Get Ready For Gun Control
Supposedly bills will be introduced in House and Senate to ban semi-automatic weapons, including pistols, assault rifles and shotguns along with high capacity mags. I have also heard if these measures fail to pass, expect a massive tax to be implemented in the form of a business regulation on businesses that sell ammo and ammo components.
Things are about to get really interesting.

I already use gun control. It's called a safe and it works great. Maybe the government should give them out instead of welfare.

Oh it's coming, it's just a matter of time and there is nothing you can do to stop it. The ideals and beliefs of most everyone on this board puts you in the minority my friend. The way we think and believe is no longer the views of this country!!!

Re: Get Ready For Gun Control
Here is the deal, the same liberals that have been in favor of gun control, to the point of gun confiscation, are feeling very emboldened as a result of the recent election. It was likely coming anyway. The unfortunate events of this past Friday will serve to fan the flames and hasten what was already on the horizon.
At a minimum we should expect another Clinton style assault weapons ban. Look for a bad on selling and purchasing assault weapons in any form. I would not be surprised if your benelli SBEs and Browning Maxus will be considered an assault weapon.
I don't think we will see a confiscation movement...to dangerous and too many.
I also expect an ammo regulation that will make purchasing ammo prohibitively expensive.

Gun Control would not have saved Officer Lang. However, gun control did cause the tragedy that occurred in Connecticut. That fellow knew those children and teachers would have no protection. Gun Control? Yeah, we ALREADY have gun control.

Memphis police director already calling for tougher gun laws....it is a shame an officer died but if he enforced the laws on the books rather than calling for an infringement on my rights ......

Well, I havent seen my Directors comments but I wonder which laws he is referring to. I am all for making it very difficult for the "evil doers" to obtain weapons. If I have to be put out a little in order for that to happen then I am all for it. Bottom line is we need gun control for the folks who do the things that the fellow in Connecticut did, and the fellow who killed Lang. The best method, in my opinion, to control the bad folks guns is for them to know people they plan to victimize are probably very well armed and know how to use that protection. That, my friends, is healthy fear and great gun control.

And Scully, we do enforce the laws on the books. The problem is the legislatures who put no teeth in those laws, and the court system who are so overwhelmed they let them right back out. No one has a fear of being PUNISHED for their crimes.

Re: Get Ready For Gun Control
I don't think in the short term we will have any gun control measure introduced. Congress is to bogged down in the budget to deal with something like this right now. It might come up in the future but with a Republican house and several Democrats who come from rural districts where gun ownership is prevelant it would be a very hard sell.
Can Obama do anything through Executive order without Congress approval to impose gun control? I don't know. Taxes have to be approved by Congress so I don't think he can do it through raising prices on ammunition.

Let's have knife control, car control, lead pipe control. My point aint no gun, knife, car or pipe ever killed anybody people kill people. We need to get back to raiseing our kid's right instead of saying poor Johnny don't need a spanking he just need's some med's to make him do right.I know we'v had 1 or 2 thing's like this happen in the South but most happen in yankee country with these pansiy ass parent's that think disipline(sp) is a sin.I gonna say from the photo of the gunman he aint never handled a gun til that day look's like a little brat that aint never been taught anything.

What do you guys foresee in the way of gun control methods when they are inevitably introduced?

And you think gun control laws are going to keep "evil doers" from obtaining weapons? Most of the "evil doers" are not purchasing their firearms from a licensed dealer.Jordan River wrote:I am all for making it very difficult for the "evil doers" to obtain weapons. No addict, I do not believe gun control laws will keep weapons out of the hands of thugs. I know that much better than most. Read my other post and you will see what I think of gun control as it pertains to the rest of us. I am a firm believer in the right to bear arms. I wish more of us did.

Re: Get Ready For Gun Control
I'm going to play devils advocate here and ask a question. Without going into a tirade of "it opens doors to stricter gun control later" why should assault type weapons be available to the general public? I'm not condoning outlawing them I just want opinions.
I'm of the mindset that sooner or later (probably sooner) gun owners are going to have to make some concessions on guns, how they are obtained, who can obtain them, what they can obtain, etc. Seems to me that assaulkt type weapons will be the first atatcked and I'm not sure I understand the logic of the common citizen and why they need one. John Q public's perception will that of if the shooter Friday had only the two pistols or even the two pistols and a hunting rifle the damage could have been less.
Again, I'm asking for enlightenemnt, not an argument. Would especially like to hear from LEO who have to worry about these type weapons being used against them.
