I would rather
Be good get the job done and not get all the awards and media attention. Than get my ass burnt all year and become my rival teams go to receivers little do boy all night. I swear state fans have become delusional bc of this weak as$ schedule. We didn't do $#!+ against anybody all year we beat a bunch of nobody teams that all fired their coach and now we think we have arrived and the media is fueling this fire. I would rather actually be good and win a damn game than get all these bs awards and my team get their ass beat all year. I really just do not get it how we can be this over rated and play so bad. Until we say hey we are not that good we will continue to not work with the same work ethic we had when I was there. We were hungry and wanted respect and practiced/played that way. With this false sense of being good and all these people patting us on the shoulder telling us how great we are we will have a rude awakening coming in our future. Maybe as soon as Jan 1st if NW has any sort of passing game.

Starts at the top.
Mullen wasn't so fiery after the Bama debacle, and his team followed suit.
We got a good chance of goin 5-7 next year.
Oh well "@#$%#" it, enjoy the bowl game. I don't think anybody should apologize for being there either. We beat 8 teams. Whether or not those teams were formidable opponents is not Mullen's concern. His job is to beat em whether they're up or down that year. Nobody ever apologized for beating our ass in the Crxxm days.

Re: I would rather
Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU and especially Ole Miss's receivers got a huge boost of confidence knowing they did it to the best in the country...I am happy for the guy but damn he has had a terrible year.

Re: I would rather
I've got a feeling MSU will arrive for their bowl game in a laid-back fashion thinking they can name the final score. On the other hand, Northwestern as the underdog just might be out to prove something.
Have seen it many times before - unfortunately, saw it first hand when Utah destroyed Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.
For many bowl games, there's one team that doesn't really want to be there, and one team that really does. The 4-5 weeks of preparation prior to the game is usually when it's won.

Re: I would rather
Is Banks playing with an injured knee? He suffered what looked to be a pretty serious knee injury in the Middle Tennessee game. Did not seem the same after that.
Don't think the team will be over confident going into the bowl game. Northwestern has a very good team. Also, the egg bowl should have humbled the team and the coaches. Maybe they will use the next few weeks to get back to work and focus on getting better and use the egg bowl as motivation and take it out on Northwestern. At least I hope that is what happens.

Re: I would rather
I hope it is because honest to God I am all for state and that's the $#!+ I wanted to say. How can a guy get an award for being best in the country and get done the way he did the last few games. And as far as the "injury" ha well that happened very coincidentiaally right before we actually played anybody. Maybe it wasn't his knee hurting it was just he finally had competition. Glad state is getting national recognition but I would rather win games and get it. Who cares about an individual effort if it equals you getting your ass beat by your rival and losing to any team over .500

Re: I would rather
Wow Rice, you have a lot of anger toward your team. Have you expressed these feelings to any of the players or coaches?
What do you want Banks to do, turn down the award? Tell them "no thanks I don't deserve it so I will pass on the free trip to Orlando and pass on the award because I don't deserve it"? You want Mullen or Stricklin to announce that Mississippi State does not deserve any recognition or post season awards and they will not allow any MSU player to be nominated for an award? You want them to turn down the bowl game because they don't deserve it?

I think Rice is just doing what any fan wishes fans of other teams would do....look at things objectively, put things in perspective and own up to reality even if you don't like it. No one expects Banks or MSU to turn down the recognition, but State fans drinking the Kool-Aid isn't going to make things any better in Starkville.

Re: I would rather
THANKYOUUUUUUUUU!!!! My point exactly! I have NOTHING against these guys I couldnt be more proud for them! I have spent thousands of hours with these guys but I just do not like all this media attention and false sense of accomplishment we are getting after this easy schedule. We need to stop patting the guys on the shoulder and say WTFU and play football. How many yards did the Moncreif guy at Ole Miss have that night?? Maybe Moncreif is the next Julio Jones I dont know. But if Banks is the best db Moncrief needs to def go to the NFL next year. Dont take this the wrong way I LOVE these guys and maybe thats why it is so frustrating for me. It is a lot like Michigan ND USC ect...They always start off pre season number one and NEVER do anything or play anybody to deserve that. I cant stand that and I feel thats what is happening to us this year. This years team is being treated like MS state has arived and sadly this is one of the worst teams we have had in the last few years. The false sense of broken records ect kills me because of the weak schedule. Maybe I just wish the 2010 team that lost 17-14 to the national champs on a dropped pass with 1:30 left, went to triple overtime and fumbled at the GOAL LINE against a BCS Sugar Bowl Arkansas team, threw 5 picks and held LSU to 5 fgs, that killed a Georgia a Houston an OLE MISS and went into the Swamp and beat a Florida team at home at night, that dominated the most winning team in football Michigan as we were all on ivs and sick the day before had just had this schedule. We got no respect ever and we didnt shatter records but we played and we won.farmerc83 wrote:I think Rice is just doing what any fan wishes fans of other teams would do....look at things objectively, put things in perspective and own up to reality even if you don't like it. Re: I would rather
I love my team mates my school my coaches esp the strength coach. I just want our fans to be real stop telling ourselves we have a great team when we dont or we NEVER REALLY WILL...It seems everybody is ok with the season we had and dammit I am not at all. I hate to lose in anything I mean anything. Especially to Ole Miss(dont get me wrong Ole Miss is an awesome school and an awesome program). And to see my school do so bad against actual good teams tells me we need work and telling ourselves we are great wont make us better. I want to WIN!

Re: I would rather
Rice I agree with everything you have stated. I would like to know what you think (coming from a player) of assistant coaches more so on the defensive side of things. Let um stay let um walk what. I haven't liked our style of defense since Manny left. And even when he was there I didn't like the way our secoundary ran its coverages. This 10 yards off of every reciever style zone makes me want to pull my hair out. But anyway I was just wondering what your thoughts on the subject are. I understand though if you do not wish to put them on the internet for all to see though.
Re: I would rather
I agree with you Rice. Go back and read some of my posts in September & October. I was saying there was something wrong with this team back then. No fire or sense of urgency from the players or the coaches. This team has no KJ Wrigt, no Chris White, no Pernell McPhee, no Derick Sherrod. I am sure you can name others who were great leaders on that team. This team does not appear to have those types of great leaders. Coach Mullen also does not appear to be as focused and committed as in years past. As a result, we got embarassed in the egg bowl. Is that on the players? Is that on the coaching staff? Both?
On the flip side, and what I would disagree with you about is that we should never apologize for an 8-4 season. We should never apologize for a new years day bowl or for a player getting a prestigious award. If the coaches can get this team back focused on playing hard nosed football and we win the bowl game then we finish 9-4 and have a little momentum going into the off season. All of these positives will look really good to recruits and will maybe help the coaches sign some impact players like the guys you played with.
