A limit question?
If you shoot 3 greenheads and a black/mallard hybrid, are you allowed one more green head or does the black/mallard hybrid count as your fourth mallard?
Re: A limit question?
Yes.

A Black Duck is considered a different species. You could kill 4 Mallards no more than 2 females, and 1 Black duck and still be OK. I am not sure what you are calling a hybrid
Re: A limit question?
A "black/mallard hybrid" is a 100 point bird. Your done for the day.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Re: A limit question?
if you are questioning the possibility of being over the limit, why not just unload the gun? think wingman and jeff foiles showed us all that there really is no such thing as "1 over the limit"
Re: A limit question?
If I shoot a black/mallard hydrid I'm probably leaving anyway, the day can only go downhill from there.

I am interested in purchasing duck calls that were made by Mike McLemore. I am a family member and they have a sentimental value.

Re: A limit question?
I'd go to court over it as it's not a 100% Mallard and should fall into the mix of other species in the aggreate 6 bird bag limit. I would certainly hope a Game Warden would see the gray area here as would a judge. The law reads no more than 4 Mallards and not more than two hens. A hybrid is obviously not a pure species. Could be a good test case. I would argue that even with 4 Mallards and a Black it would be legal, but I have been known to like to argue. Thankfully and hopefully common sense would prevail here, but on the other hand, what are the odds. I've been checked by East Coast wardens and had hybrids and none except pure Blacks counted as a Black Duck. Again it's with someone wearing a badge and their interpretation. JMO

Re: A limit question?
Last time I hunted at the local draw-hunt wma, my group killed several birds we believed to be ring necks. We get to the checkout station and the conservation officer is there with some biologist taking stool samples and they look at our birds and start debating whether the birds were female ring necks or redheads. I think the limit was either no redheads or one redhead(this was the 2010 season) at the time. So I'm sitting there thinking great, we about to get rung up on over the limit on these dang birds the dang biologists can't agree on what they were. They finally decided that they were hybrids and that we were within our 6 bird limit of ring necks. All's well that ends well.

Re: A limit question?
wow thats a good thought provoking question that I do not know the answer to. LOL!
You ain't killin if you ain't shootin
Re: A limit question?
you can kill 4 mallards + a hybrid or two hybrids.
for exmaple you could kill 4 greenheads (two banded), a mallard/black cross, and a mallard/gaddy cross and smash a hot blonde on the way back to the ramp and call it a hell of a day
