PITTSBURGH (AP) _ What do you call an aluminum container for beer? No, it's not a can -- but an aluminum bottle. Alcoa is teaming up with Pittsburgh Brewing, the maker of Iron City beer, to introduce the new aluminum beer bottle. The metal bottle has three times the aluminum of a typical beer can. Alcoa says that makes for better insulation and will keep the beer cold for nearly an hour longer than a glass bottle. But the aluminum bottle is more expensive to make, so Iron City will be charging a buck more a case. It's not the first time Iron City and Alcoa have partnered. In 1962 they made can opener history with the first pop-top beer cans.

It's not "staying cold long" enough that is my problem. My problem is "getting if to get cold faster". Won't a thicker can(bottle) insulate it and keep it warm longer also?

Self-Chilling I.C. Can

Speaking of cold beverages, Tempra Technology has developed the I.C. Can, a "100% safe and environmentally friendly" aluminum can that uses a self-chilling process involving a cooling gel, desiccant, and heat sinks. They claim to be able to drop the temperature of the 10-ounces of beverage inside by 30 degrees Fahrenheit in three minutes. It's pretty cool tech, but I can't help but wonder if it's all a bit convoluted. That doesn't mean I don't want to try one; unfortunately, Tempra is still looking for a partner to actually put a branded beverage inside.

Don't think that will fly to well in starkville. It takes to long to get a beer cold if it's in a regular bottle, much less an insulated bottle.

You got that right grnheadhuntr... this town is the only place I've ever been that you can't buy COLD beer. I've been to dry counties before... but never a warm beer one. :shock:

The City of Starkville is violating state law by not allowing cold beer in the city limits. Oktibbehea County must be dry county wide for Starkville to be in the right. You have two choices........wait 7 minutes for it to get cold......or drive 15 min to West Point...... :lol:

Or catch the Bud Light truck at 7am as he pulls up to the store to get it cold....... :lol:

oktibehha county was dry when I was up there but if your real sneaky I'll let you in on a little trick that used to work good. We used to go to Sack and Save, dont know if its still called that, but youll know the store on the corner of road going to the refuge and 12, Get someone that has an early class (8am) to go by and stick a couple of cases of Natty light necks, in the frozen pizza section and cover them up good, store is usally slow this early in the morning, than when you get out of that 10am go by and pick up your cold beer when you pick up the yard bird for the pit, this little trick always worked well just dont open them in the parking lot cause well I may know someon that got an open container there once, like I said I just no someone, it wasnt me,wink wink,, if not get in your car and drive to Pheba, plenty of ducks and deer to look at on the way, man o man I miss them days.....any of you boys remeber the sugar plumb, crossroads, countyline bar, mack banks super club.

I used to frequent the county line quite often. The crossroads was a hangout for the brothers when I was there. I have never heard of Mack Bank's Super Club, but I have heard Mack Bank's sing. I assume it is the same guy. He is one funny sob!

Shoot, I go back farther than that.

Crossroads, LinLous (PBR's and fried dill pickles), Triangle Club.

Now for the really old folks...What was the name of the club in Columbus where everybody went? Started of as a country place, but added rock'n roll in the early '70's.

'Course I only went to those places to do research for my classes!
