This thread reminds me about one time when my little brother and I went visit my dad one summer. He lived in West Virginia. We would go visit him once or twice a year. We would usually spend most of our time fishing. Well, the week after I graduated Highschool, my younger brother and I drove up there for a two week visit. Instead of buying the three day non-resident fishing license, he bought my brother and me a year resident license, which was the same price as the 3 day non-res.

So the second or third day we are up there, we are fishing and mr. Green jeans shows up looking for whoever was driving the ford ranger with Mississippi tags. I told him it was mine and he checked my brothers license and wanted to know how come I've got a resident WV license with a Mississippi drivers license. (my dad had gotten the license at the bait shop the day before we got there, so I wasn't there to ahi a license.) I knew pops was gonna be up a creek, so on the fly, I explained to the conservation officer that my brother and I were from Mississippi and had just moved to WV to live with my dad. He didnt write us up but explained that we needed to go get a Wv drivers livense as soon as the office opened the following monday. I don't know if he bought the story or not, but he let it slide.

My dad felt terrible for putting my brother and me in that situation. Every year after that, we got the 3day non res.

Even still, an expired DL should suffice. It positively identifies the holder and provides photo I'd and address and date of birth.

Ran into that problem one might going to the rainbow casino one night. Doorman wouldn't let me in cause my DL expired the week before. The sign on the podium clearly stated DL, military ID or any state issued ID. I tried to explain to the attendant that an expired drivers license was a state issued ID, it just wasn't legal for me to drive. Dude wasn't buying it. I was livid. So I go to the dmv the next Monday to renew the DL. Lady behind the desk hands me the new one, asks for the old one, punches a hole in the corner and hands it back to me. I ask "what's this for?" she says, "although you can't drive with it, it acts as a state issued ID in case you misplace your new drivers license."
