Postby CROWDERDUCK10 » Wed Nov 14, 2012 6:17 pm

Thinking about buying a TC Encore Prohunter 35 Whelen tommorow. Any positive or negative input on this gun. Heard mostly great reviews, but also heard some negatives. Also, what are some of your reccomendations on which bullet to shoot. Thanks for any input guys.

Just make sure u get either a last years model or this years model with the 24 in barrel on it. These barrels were designed around the 200 grain Hornady superformance load but will work with most any of the lighter bullets. Any barrel length longer than that is older than last years model and subject to have a problem. Not saying they all do but subject to!

I have a 28" prohunter in 35 Whelen..no problems whatsoever out of it and its a tackdriver. I carry that gun more than my 280 now during rifle season. Have killed 6 deer with it so far and had one run about 10 yards. The other five dropped where they stood! Great gun and way more comfortable to shoot than the CVA's and Handi-rifles I've shot that where 35 Whelen.

This!!! Out to 250 yards (as far as I've shot it) it is dead on!

Just bought one with 24" barrel. First barrel had a burr in the chamber... casing stuck after being shot. This barrel shoots fine but my grouping is crap, 4" at 100yds. I shot the Barnes Vortex bullets. I bought a box of the 175gr Hornady's. I'm hoping they will group better. I'd be willing to bet that this gun just doesn't like the Barnes loads, they always load theirs a little hot. I put a cheaper Nikon Buckmaster scope on it, so it could be the scope too. I tried the Apex and the TC just felt better to me.

I have the 28" pro hunter barrel and never a problem. I love mine. I shoot 200 grain Remington Core lokts. I have the 200 grain Hornadys but haven't shot them yet. I wouldn't buy anything else.

I am shooting the barnes vortex 180 this year. Cut a doe a flip this past weekend @ 172 yds. Mine is a tack driver and feel confident out to 300 yds with mine.

Which length barrel do you have. I am considering the Barnes or the Hornandy. Thanks for the input

I've had mine for 3 years and love it. i put a 4.5x14 Leupold on it and I'm shooting the new Barnes TSX 180 gr.and it is wicked.
There is no comparison to the way this gun kicks with the others. The stock on the Pro Hunter is worth the extra money.

I believe I have a 26" barrel. Not 100% sure though. I have a fluted-ported barrel so the recoil is not noticable, but it is a louder than any other gun i own.

may want to check your rings...had the same problem with mine, turns out it was the nasty recoil from the .35 moving my scope ever so slightly in the rings.

The 180g Barnes loaded by double tap shoot best out of my gun. Dropped only deer I have shot with them. The 225 nosler custom accubonds shoot good from most. I have the 28" barrel. First I have heard that they are having problems with them. All my friends have the 28" barrel as well.

Yep, make sure the rings and bases have loctite! That 35 round is tough on bases and rings! I've had similar problems with two guns we were sighting in. My little Brothers handi rifle and my buddies CVA both had to have the scopes remounted and loctited after the first range sessions!

If the scope is securely mounted and was loctited, try to order an oversized hinge pin. I think the "+1" is all you'll need. I've heard it will drastically shrink the group sizes too.

I dont own one but have heard a lot of mixed reviews with them. One person has a tack driver, the next has one that sprays. Some had problems with headspacing. How much cheaper is the Apex?
